Manchester United v West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 09, 2017
Old Trafford - Premier League
After disappointment in the European Super Cup, Manchester United start their Premier League campaign at home against West Ham on Sunday. There’s plenty to be excited about for both teams, in what could turn out to be a cracking opening fixture.
West Ham have won just one of their last 16 games against Manchester United. After the famous 3-2 victory in the last match at Upton Park, the Hammers followed it up by taking a point from Old Trafford last season. United however beat West Ham 4-1 a few days later in the League Cup, before winning 2-0 at the London Stadium in January.
Jose Mourinho has no new injury concerns after the defeat against Real Madrid. Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are all long term absentees. Meanwhile Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof are all likely to start for their Manchester United Premier League debuts.
Old Trafford will see the return of former favourite Javier Hernandez, after the Mexican striker signed for West Ham. Marko Arnautovic, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta are also in line to make their competitive debuts. However, Hammers boss Slaven Bilic could be missing up to seven players on Sunday. Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini, Diafra Sakho and Sofiane Feghouli are all doubts.
Manchester United v West Ham Preview and Predictions
After waiting all summer, Manchester United and West Ham supporters must wait until Sunday afternoon for their season to start. There’s lots of promise for both sets of fans, with plenty of new faces and millions spent on them.
Mourinho is renowned for his performances in the second season of a job, and he’s now had two summer transfer windows to mould his squad. After testing themselves against one of the world’s finest teams on Tuesday, the time has come to deliver in the Premier League. The United boss doesn’t seem to have a favoured formation, never mind starting XI, so there may be some surprises on the team sheet.
His counterpart Bilic is also trying to work out his best side with so many new arrivals and injuries. After the fanfare of the new season, last season was a huge disappointment for West Ham. The manager kept his job, but he needs a good start to the new campaign. There are few harder places to visit than Old Trafford, but few better to record a stunning upset.
United are unsurprisingly heavy favourites in the betting. The Reds are priced at 6/19, while West Ham are available as long as 12/1. If you think the game will end in a draw, the odds are 24/5.
Lukaku to score in 1-0 United win at 20/1
The big Belgian is now the main man up front for United, and will be the main source of goals. Bet on him to score a decisive one on his Old Trafford bow.
Both teams to score at 5/4
United have issues at the back though, and with the likes of Chicharito around, this looks like a decent bet.
