Manchester United v Wolverhampton Wanderers Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 18, 2018
Old Trafford - Premier League
The crisis has been averted for now at Manchester United, but can the snarling Wolves bring the pressure piling back up against Jose Mourinho’s door? The newly-promoted side have put in some strong performances so far this season, and this could be an entertaining game on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United recorded a pair of thumping victories against Wolves the last time the Wanderers were in the Premier League, winning 4-1 at Old Trafford and 5-0 at Molineux. That was over six years ago though, and a lot’s changed for both clubs in that time.
Marcus Rashford and Nemanja Matic are both suspended for the hosts, while Phil Jones, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo are all injury doubts. Luke Shaw should be okay after his concussion though, while Diogo Dalot could be in line for his debut.
Ivan Cavaleiro is the only injury concern for visiting boss Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese forward is nearing a return from a back injury, but this game is expected to come too soon for him. Apart from that, Nuno Santo has a fully-fit squad to pick from.
Manchester United v Wolves Preview and Predictions
The last time these two teams met, Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Manchester United. There was no Portuguese contingent to speak of at Wolves, and the Wanderers had little to no chance of beating the Red Devils. Things couldn’t be more different this time round.
United have looked vulnerable on plenty of occasions so far this season, although Mourinho’s men have responded with two hard-fought victories at Burnley and Watford. They remain a formidable proposition at Old Trafford, but the air of invincibility against smaller sides has gone.
The hosts are still heavy favourites in the betting though, priced at 3/5 for the win. They’ll be glad of home advantage after their trip to Switzerland to face Young Boys on Wednesday, although the injuries and suspensions will dictate Mourinho’s team selection to quite a degree.
Wolves are 21/4 for the win, as they go in search of their third victory of the season. They rained in the shots on Burnley’s goal last weekend but could only hit the back of the net once, and they’ll need to be much more clinical if they’re going to go home with a result from this one. After Wolves took a point off Manchester City recently, the draw here’s available at 3/1.
United to win and both teams to score at 45/17
The Red Devils are the favourites and should have enough to get the win, but Wolves could certainly cause them some problems.
Lukaku to score first at 15/4
The Belgian striker has four goals in five games so far this season and he’ll fancy his chances against Wolves at Old Trafford.
