Millwall v Everton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 22, 2019
The Den - FA Cup
Premier League outfit Everton head to The Den on Saturday to play a Millwall side who are currently in 19th place in the Championship. The away team are favourites, but it won’t be easy against Neil Harris’s side.
The teams haven’t played in 12 years, since a third-round FA Cup tie that went to a replay. A 1-1 draw in London sent the game back to Goodison Park, where former Millwall man Tim Cahill got the only goal for Everton. Before that, the clubs hadn’t met since 1995, when the Lions won a two-legged League Cup tie.
Millwall come into this game with a full set of players, as Neil Harris has no injuries or suspensions to worry about. The Lions boss will send out a strong team like he did against Hull in the last round, with two-goal hero Shane Ferguson hoping for a start after coming off the bench a few weeks ago.
Marco Silva will only be without Phil Jagielka for this game, and he’s also likely to name a strong starting XI after he did just that at home to Lincoln City in the third round. Ademola Lookman and Bernard got the goals for the Toffees in that game, and are in contention to start this weekend.
Millwall v Everton Preview and Predictions
Everton are struggling to put a decent run together this season, after another disappointing defeat at Southampton on Saturday. However, the travelling Toffees fans will expect their side to overcome a team who are only six points above the Championship’s relegation zone.
Millwall had won four in a row before their last two games, the first of which was a poor showing in losing 2-0 at home to Blackburn. The Lions responded well against Middlesbrough at the weekend though, almost claiming a huge victory at the Riverside but for a last-minute penalty.
The capital club are fighters, but they’ve lost 13 of their 28 Championship fixtures so far this term. They are 9/2 for the upset this weekend, but their chances will depend on which version of this Everton team turns up.
The Toffees are capable of excellent performances, as they showed in dismantling Burnley 5-1 at Turf Moor last month. That was only one of two away wins all season in the Premier League though, as they come to a ground where Millwall are unbeaten in eight FA Cup ties.
The visitors are still favourites in the betting though, priced at 5/7. This is the Toffees’ last chance for silverware this season, and after significant investment, they should be in the mix in the latter stages of a competition they last won in 1995. Both teams could do without a replay, but the draw is priced at 14/5.
Everton to win and BTTS at 11/4
Millwall are likely to have a say in this match in front of their home fans, but Everton’s quality should see them through to the fifth round.
Over 2.5 goals at 9/10
Everton’s last four FA Cup ties have seen over 2.5 goals, so this looks a decent price on that sequence extending to five.
