Netherlands v England Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques - Nations League
There’s a place in the Nations League final up for grabs as England take on the Netherlands in Portugal on Thursday evening. Both teams are on an upward trajectory after positive campaigns in the competition, and are looking to become the first winners of the tournament.
England beat the Netherlands 1-0 in Amsterdam in March last year, while the Oranje recorded back-to-back friendly wins at Wembley before that. Those matches were four years apart though, while Wembley was the scene of the most recent competitive meeting between the countries, when England battered the Netherlands 4-1 at Euro 96.
England captain Harry Kane is expected to start after returning to fitness for Tottenham’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool, although he was clearly not match fit. Gareth Southgate may decide to utilise his main striker from the bench, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Callum Wilson vying for a start alongside Premier League champion Raheem Sterling.
Liverpool’s talismanic defender and now European champion Virgil van Dijk captains the Dutch side, while Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum will also start. In-demand Matthijs de Ligt will play at centre-back alongside former Manchester United man Daley Blind, while Barcelona-bound Frenkie de Jong will marshal the heart of Holland’s midfield.
Netherlands v England Preview and Predictions
The inaugural Nations League has proven a success so far, and two more wins for England would see the Three Lions taste glory in a major international tournament for the first time since 1966. The competition’s also given the Netherlands a chance to rebuild after missing last summer’s World Cup and Euro 2016.
The Oranje have an exciting young squad featuring some of Europe’s most talented prospects, with Ronald Koeman at the helm. They did brilliantly to emerge from a group containing the last two world champions, France and Germany, to reach this semi-final, allowing them to enjoy a real resurgence in fortunes.
England have also been resurgent in the last couple of years, and they’ve continued the momentum gained from reaching the semi-finals in Russia. Southgate has guided the Three Lions to big wins over the likes of Spain and Croatia in recent matches, while they’ve scored 10 goals in their first two Euro 2020 qualifying fixtures.
That helps England start as favourites for the win on Thursday, priced at 31/20 for the win inside 90 minutes. The Netherlands are 11/5, while this game is 23/10 to be level at the end of normal time. With the potential for extra-time and penalties, England are 3/4 to qualify for the final, with the Oranje available at 23/20.
England to win and BTTS at 4/1
The Three Lions continue to ride the quest of a wave, and will look to take advantage of a Dutch back line that doesn’t keep many clean sheets, despite the presence of the irrepressible Van Dijk.
Raheem Sterling to score at 14/5
The Manchester City forward has had an outstanding season for club and country, and has six goals in his last five international appearances.
