New York Red Bulls v New York City FC Predictions, Betting Tips, Previews
June 20, 2017
Saturday 24 June – Red Bull Arena – Major League Soccer
The New York Red Bulls host city rivals New York City on Saturday, in a fixture that has shown little signs of friendly rivalry in recent seasons.
Previous meetings between these two have been feisty affairs, with three red cards handed out in the last seven match ups. Saturday’s hosts the New York Red Bulls certainly have the better recent record against their fierce rivals, winning six out their last seven meetings. This includes a 7-0 victory back in May 2016.
The New York Red Bulls have only one confirmed absence for Saturday’s game. Ghanian defender Gideon Baah has already been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg. Fellow defenders Connor Lade and Aaron Long both face late fitness tests on injuries, while midfielder Mike Grella is also doubtful to be fit in time for Saturday.
New York City also have injury concerns of their own, with three first team players all set to miss out for this crunch game. Defender Ronald Matarrita remains sidelined with an ankle sprain and striker Khiry Shelton is missing with a hamstring problem. However the biggest injury blow for NYCFC is the absence of Maxi Moralez. The Argentinian midfielder misses out with a calf injury.
New York Red Bulls v New York City FC Previews and Predictions
The New York Red Bulls have stabilised their form in recent weeks. Following a difficult start to the MLS season, they’ve hauled themselves back up to fifth in the Eastern Conference table. Jesse Marsch’s side have lost just one of their last five MLS games and they face their city rivals with confidence high.
New York City are also in consistent form of late. They’ve lost two their last five games though, handing a slight edge to the hosts in terms of form. Patrick Vieira’s side are third in the table due to a far better start to the season than their city rivals.
Given their recent record against NYCFC, the New York Red Bulls should just have enough to edge out a win. A home victory is priced at 21/20 in the betting. The visitors start at 13/5, while the draw’s available at the same price.
New York Red Bulls to win 2-1 at 17/2
The New York Red Bulls are on an upward curve recently, and a derby win will give them a huge boost for the remainder of the season.
Both teams to score at evens
There’s plenty of goalscoring potential in both camps and a history of goals in this fixture. You can get evens on both teams to score in this one, which looks like a decent bet.
