Newcastle United v Bournemouth Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 31, 2017
St James’ Park - Premier League
Bournemouth make the long journey north to face Newcastle on Saturday, as both sides look to recover from 1-0 losses last weekend.
Past Meetings
These two teams haven’t played each other many times down the years. This will be the ninth meeting between the teams, with just four of these coming in the league and two in the top flight. Both teams won away from home in the Premier League the season before last, with Bournemouth avenging a 1-0 defeat at the Vitality by winning the return fixture 3-1.
Team News
Ayoze Perez is the only Newcastle player to ever score a top flight goal against the Cherries, and the Spaniard will be a threat in behind Joselu once again. On the injury front, Paul Dummett and Mikel Merino miss out for the Magpies.
Eddie Howe has considerably more injury headaches to deal with. Junior Stanislas and Benik Afobe are set to miss the trip to the North East, while Josh King and Ryan Fraser face late fitness tests. Brad Smith and Tyrone Mings remain on the treatment table, along with goalkeeper Adam Federici.
Newcastle United v Bournemouth Preview and Predictions
Since losing their opening game of the season against Tottenham at St James’ Park, Newcastle are unbeaten at home in the Premier League. Saturday’s visitors have picked up just three points on the road from five games this season. Bournemouth have only found the back of the net three times away from the Vitality, helping them to start as underdogs in the betting.
Newcastle’s season just can’t seem to get going, and losing at Burnley thanks to a late Jeff Hendrick goal on Monday evening consigned them to their fourth defeat of the season. They still sit in the top half of the Premier League table though, and with a few more goals there’s no reason why Rafa Benitez’s side cannot maintain this. They need summer signing Joselu to find his goalscoring touch though, with the Spanish striker having scored just twice so far and often misfiring in front of goal.
Only Crystal Palace have scored fewer times than Bournemouth, so it’s fair to say the south coast club have issues of their own up top. This isn’t helped by injuries, although under-fire Howe will be thrilled to have Callum Wilson available again. If Jermain Defoe laces up his shooting boots then the Cherries will certainly be threat to a Newcastle defence that has the joint-fourth best record in the Premier League.
The Magpies start as 11/10 favourites in the betting for this one, while Bournemouth are priced at 33/10 and the draw at 13/5.
