Newcastle United v Leicester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 05, 2017
St James’ Park - Premier League
Newcastle welcome Leicester to St James’ for the Saturday evening Premier League kickoff, with the hosts on a run of six games without a win. The Foxes have proven tough to beat away from home of late, drawing four and winning one in their last five on the road.
If current form suggests a tough ask for Newcastle in this fixture, their recent games against Leicester hardly offer much inspiration. The Magpies have lost their last four against Saturday’s visitors, failing to score in any of those games. Shinji Okazaki scored the only goal of the game the last time the teams met in March of last year.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has three players rated as 50/50 for this one. Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and Christian Atsu are all pushing for a return to the side after injury, with captain Lascelles possibly the most important of the trio.
In the opposite dugout, Claude Puel is set to be without Robert Huth as the defender continues his recovery from a foot injury. Matty James is close to a comeback, although Saturday’s game may be too soon for the versatile 26-year-old.
Newcastle United v Leicester City Preview and Predictions
This is a massive game for Newcastle as the busy Christmas period bears quickly down on us, as Benitez looks to avoid a winter of discontent at his unstable club. It’s fixtures like this that will determine whether the Magpies are able to challenge for a place in the security of mid table, or if they have a relegation dogfight to look forward to.
With Mike Ashley desperate to sell up, the importance of this season on Tyneside cannot be understated. If Newcastle can secure their Premier League status as early as possible, there could be plenty of money and optimism flowing into the club before the summer gets going. On the other hand, it’s hard to see Benitez wanting to stick around for another season of turmoil if his side struggle their way through the campaign.
Foxes manager Puel meanwhile has steadied the ship since taking over at the King Power Stadium towards the end of October. Leicester have taken 11 points from the Frenchman’s six games in charge, with their only defeat coming against Manchester City. The visitors still start this game as slight underdogs in the betting though, priced at 19/10. Newcastle are available at 7/4, while the draw’s 12/5.
Both teams to score at 13/15
Both sides have been leaky at the back this season, making this a fair price for this bet.
Leicester to win to nil at 4/1
Alternatively, back the visitors to keep their fifth clean sheet in a row against Newcastle as the hosts’ winless streak continues.
