Newcastle United v Stoke City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 12, 2017
St James’ Park - Premier League
Newcastle welcome Stoke to St James’ Park on Saturday, as the resurgent Magpies go in search of their third consecutive victory. Rafa Benitez should be back in the dugout after missing the win at Swansea at the weekend.
This is a fixture with plenty of history, with Stoke edging recent games between the two sides. The Potters have won three of the last five meetings 1-0, with the other two games ending in draws at St James’. Xherdan Shaqiri was the match winner the last time the teams met in March of last year.
While Benitez might be back on duty, the same can’t be said of Paul Dummett who continues to miss out with the hamstring injury he picked up on the opening day of the season. Chancel Mbemba and Karl Darlow are both likely to be absent, while Jonjo Shelvey will hope for some action after staying on the bench at the Liberty on Sunday.
For Stoke, there’s a major doubt over Ryan Shawcross who missed the draw against Manchester United at the weekend with a back problem. With Geoff Cameron going off against Jose Mourinho’s side with a hamstring injury, Bruno Martins Indi is likely to step in.
Newcastle United v Stoke City Preview and Predictions
After an awful start to the season, Newcastle have recovered well and can win their third game on the bounce against Stoke. The Potters meanwhile have had some very encouraging results already this season though, and will be no pushovers.
It all seemed like doom and gloom for Benitez after losing their first two Premier League games and getting knocked out of the League Cup at home against Nottingham Forest. However a comfortable 3-0 win over hapless West Ham and a gritty victory over Swansea have catapulted them into the top half of the table. Now it’s time for the Magpies to build.
Mark Hughes has certainly been building at Stoke, bringing more and more quality into his side in each transfer window. Jese Rodriguez has shown glimpses of his talent, while keeping Shaqiri fit is a crucial piece of the puzzle. But after his two goals against United, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is the name on everyone’s lips and he’ll be a threat once more on Saturday.
This one’s proving quite tough to call for the bookmakers. Newcastle start as 7/5 favourites in the betting, while Stoke are available at 12/5. If you think the game will end in a draw, it’s 23/10.
Newcastle to win and both teams to score at 4/1
There’s plenty of attacking talent in the Stoke team, so they’re likely to score. But if you think Newcastle will still take the three points, this is a good way to improve your odds on a home win.
Stoke to win 1-0 at 9/1
Back the visitors to secure yet another 1-0 win over Newcastle. If you think Choupo-Moting will be the hero again, he’s 33/1 to bag the only goal of the game.
