Newcastle v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 30, 2019
St James' Park - Premier League
Newcastle are unbeaten in three games but will struggle to get anything out of in-form and free-scoring Liverpool side on Saturday afternoon. Jurgen Klopp's side are relying on Manchester City to slip up for a change to win the Premier League, and are doing their very best to pile on as much pressure as possible.
Liverpool put four past the Magpies when the sides met earlier this season, with Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho all on target.
Miguel Almiron has been ruled out for the final two games of the season, meaning Salamon Rondon will lead the line once again for Newcastle. Florian Lejeune and Fabian Schar are both doubts at centre-back causing uncertainly for Rafa Benitez.
Jurgen Klopp will likely rotate his XI from the one that started against Barcelona. Joe Gomez may be handed his first start after months out injured, whilst there may be a spot on the bench for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Newcastle v Liverpool Predictions and Previews
Rafa Benitez's return to Anfield is always well received, but the former Liverpool manager will be doing all he can to ruin the party on Saturday. Newcastle may have lost their last two away fixtures against the Reds, but they haven't lost at St James' park in their last four encounters - with two wins and two draws.
Liverpool are in arguably their best form of the season, and are simply blowing lower-table opposition away at the moment, but will face fatigue following a difficult Champions League encounter against Barcelona. Tired legs could well have a real factor against a well-drilled and highly physical Newcastle side, that will be perfectly happy to chase their visitors for the duration of the 90 minutes.
It is games like this that Jurgen Klopp really has the opportunity to prove that his side deserve the Premier League title, with courage perhaps needed to rotate what is unquestionably his strongest starting XI. The manager undoubtedly has the stronger team, with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, who is 9/5 to score, a top-class option from the bench.
The Magpies have little to fight for in the remainder of the season, but their coach won't let sentimentality get in the way, and will want to secure as many points as possible in the remaining two games. Benitez appears to have enjoyed his time in Newcastle, and with contract talks rolling on, he will want to encourage Mike Ashley to open the check-book, or otherwise attempt to leave the fans on a high.
Newcastle's win over Manchester City was considered at the time to have potentially given the title to Liverpool. However, with the title race now back on, can the Magpies hand it back to Pep Guardiola's side?
Mohammed Salah to score anytime at 11/10
The forward is still in the hunt for the Golden Boot and looks unstoppable at the moment.
Under 2.5 goals at 5/4
Even if they fail to keep Liverpool out entirely, Newcastle are unlikely to capitulate as they did when the sides last met.
