Newcastle v West Brom Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 24, 2018
St.James' Park - Premier League
Rafa Benitez's Newcastle welcome bottom side West Brom to Tyneside this weekend, with the visitors desperate for points as they battle relegation.
These two sides drew 2-2 when they met at The Hawthorns earlier this season, with a late Jonny Evans own goal sealing a draw for the Magpies.
Both sides won 1-0 at home in the two Premier League meetings in 2016-17.
Newcastle will be hopeful that midfielder Christian Atsu can overcome a knee injury, with Benitez set to give him a late fitness test ahead of this game.
West Brom have Nacer Chadli back in action following a long term hamstring injury, however midfield pair Gareth Barry and James Morrison are both out until next season.
Newcastle v West Brom Preview and Predictions
The Magpies have secured their Premier League survival for next season, needing just one more point to be mathematically safe for 2018-19.
West Brom are unlikely to be joining them in the top flight next season, with the dreaded drop seemingly just around the corner for The Baggies.
Darren Moore has injected some added belief into the club, and they are unbeaten in the three games since he stepped in as caretaker boss, including morale boosting performances against Liverpool and Manchester United.
Benitez's side are generally quite solid at home, unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games at St.James' Park, including four wins, but their season is rapidly running out of steam.
With a bit more positivity around the club, West Brom should be able to pick up a draw here, priced at 12/5.
Five goals in their last four games for Newcastle, and four in four for West Brom, is not exactly goal filled form, and this should be a low key encounter.
An under 2.5 total goals bet is available at 3/4.
A 1-1 draw at 6/1
This result would send West Brom down, as they need three wins to end the season, but it just too difficult to see them getting all three points in this game. A battling performance will be expected, but the drop looks to be unavoidable.
Ayoze Perez to score anytime at 19/10
Spaniard Perez has three goals in his last three games, including two winning goals against Huddersfield and Leicester City. He is joint top scorer with Dwight Gayle for Premier League goals for Newcastle this season, with five goals each.
