Nottingham Forest v Arsenal Betting Tips, Predictions and Previews
January 03, 2018
City Ground - FA Cup
Arsenal travel to the City Ground this Sunday, as they face a manageress Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, with both sides in need of a cup run. With Forest mid-table, and the Gunners out of Champions League places, the fans need something to cheer for.
The two teams have only clashed once since Forest were relegated from the Premier League in 1999. The game in question, a League Cup third round fixture last year, ended in an easy victory for Arsenal, thanks to goals from Granit Xhaka, Alex Oxlade-Chamberline and two from Lucas Perez.
Stephen Henderson remains a long-term absentee for Forest, whilst Jack Hobbs, Matt Mills and Tendayi Darikwa are all major doubts for Sunday's match. Following a length period out, Danny Fox will be in line for a return, having been on the bench against Leeds United mid-week.
The situation is even worse for Arsene Wenger who is without Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud, Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla. Making matters worse, Mesut Oil, Laurent Koscielny and Sead Kolasinac are all major doubts for Sunday's game. This should see major rotations for the Gunners with the likes of Callum Chambers coming into defence.
Nottingham Forest v Arsenal Predictions and Preview
Following Nottingham Forest firing manager Mark Warburton this week, the club is in a desperate search for a new manager and wary of repeating last season, where the club had a caretaker manager for the first three months of 2017.
Although the responsibility ultimately rests of the manager, Warburton was greatly hindered by his squad, which, even without injuries, was hardly amongst the best in the Championship. In Keiran Dowell and Daryl Murphy they have two reliable attacking players, who are 6/1 and 5/2 to score anytime on Sunday, but the problem lies with the defence. Forest have conceded 42 goals already this season, the fifth most in the league, with injuries preventing the back line from gaining at kind of consistency.
With a record like this against Championship sides, coming up against Arsenal, who have scored seven in their last four games, could see the game end with a cricket score on Sunday.
Arsenal have also been struggling defensively, and have conceded as many as they have drawn over the past four games. Much of this is also down to injuries, which have plagued their defence and midfield in recent weeks, and continues to cause selection dilemmas for Wenger. Following a mid-week game against Chelsea, the manager is likely to make wholesale changes on Sunday, with very few players keeping their place.
This could be a saving grace for Forest, who may be able to regain some confidence playing against less-prestigious players.
Danny Welbeck to score anytime at 10/11
The forward is likely to get a game, with Giroud out injured.
Arsenal to win and score over 2.5 goals at 7/2
The Gunners will be keen to get on track and should be able to overcome Forest even with youngsters playing.
