- Grant Whittington

Friday June 30 – Yankee Stadium, New York – MLS

New York City host Minnesota United on Friday night on the back of an impressive derby win over city rivals New York Red Bulls.

Past Meetings

NYC FC have never faced Friday’s visitors in competitive action before, with 2017 being Minnesota’s first season in the MLS.

Team News

Visitors Minnesota are without a number of first team players ahead of their visit to Yankee Stadium on Friday.

Veteran defender Marc Burch has been ruled out of action for the next three months following groin surgery, with fellow defender Joseph Greenspan also sidelined for this one through a concussion.

However Vadim Demidov could return to the fold and boost the Minnesota back line, but he faces a late fitness test on a knee problem.

Bernado Anor and Thomas de Villardi are both still a long way from a first team return, as they continue their recoveries from long term calf and achilles injuries respectively.

Patrick Vieira’s New York side have no fresh injury worries ahead of Friday’s game, striker Khiry Shelton and midfielder Maxi Moralez remain out of action  due to hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

Ronald Matarrita failed a late fitness test ahead of last week’s New York derby game, and he will be tested again before the Minnesota clash to see if he has fully completed his comeback from a hamstring problem.

NYC FC v Minnesota United FC Previews and Predictions

Current form puts NYC as real favourites for this one, and with Minnesota’s recent inconsistent form they should pose little opposition to Vieira’s side.

NYC are unbeaten in their last four MLS games, with a run of three consecutive wins ahead of this meeting, while Minnesota had won just once in the same period of games.

Home advantage will also be a real  plus for NYC, and a home win  is priced at 2/5.

Both sides have been in good recent goal scoring form, with four goals in their last two games for NYC and five in three for Minnesota, an over 2.5 goals bet looks a good option, priced at  8/5.

Recommended Bets

NYC to win 3-1 at 9/1

NYC are up to third in the MLS table following their recent run  of good results, and Minnesota will be stubborn in opposition, but NYC should have enough to secure the victory.

David Villa to score first at 9/4

Former Spanish international Villa is NYC’s leading scorer with 10 goals so far this season, and he will be hoping to add to that tally on Friday.
