August 02, 2017
Sunday August 6 – Yankee Stadium, New York – MLS
The New York City derby has rolled around again, just five weeks since the last one, with NYC FC hoping to making it two wins in a row against their rivals.
NYC FC did win the most recent meeting, 2-0 back in June, but NY Red Bulls have the much better record against their city rivals. In the six MLS meetings between the two sides, NY Red Bulls have won four times, including a 7-0 win at Yankee Stadium in May 2016.
Hosts NYC FC have a huge injury list, and manager Patrick Vieira will have to significantly shuffle his pack to cope with a number of absentees.
Striker Khiry Shelton is still out of action with a hamstring injury, as is fellow forward Rodney Wallace who has chest problem, both are expected to be back in a month.
Defensive trio Ronald Matarrita, James Sands and Maxime Chamot are all out indefinitely with foot, hip and groin injuries.
Midfielder Miguel Camargo is also likely to miss the rest of the season, after rupturing his hip. Defender Ben Sweat is back in training following a concussion, but may not be risked.
NY Red Bulls also have two long term injury absentees, with defender Gideon Baah out with a broken leg and midfielder Mike Grella missing through knee surgery, with both expected to miss the rest of the season.
Defensive pair Aurelien Collin and Connor Lade are both back in training following hamstring and ankle injuries respectively, and should be fit to play.
