July 17, 2017
Thursday July 20 – Yankee Stadium – Major League Soccer
NYC FC welcome Toronto to Yankee Stadium on Thursday in a high flying clash between second and third in the MLS Eastern Conference table.
Hosts NYC FC have a fairly strong record against the Canadians, unbeaten in four out of their last five meetings. However their last meeting, in October 2016, Toronto got the better of them for the first time, winning 2-0.
Both sides look to be recovering from major injury concerns that have dogged them in recent weeks.
However NYC are still missing two of their most creative players for Thursday’s game, with forward Khiry Shelton still out of action with a hamstring injury and midfielder Maxi Moralez out with a calf strain.
Defender Ronald Matarrita will be back in action at the end of July, following surgery on a foot injury.
Toronto are also suffering from defensive issues, with Steven Beitashour and Nick Hagglund both ruled out with long term abdominal and knee injuries respectively.
NYC FC v Toronto FC Preview and Predictions
Despite losing their last game 3-2 away at Vancouver Whitecaps, NYC FC have enjoyed an excellent run of recent form, winning four MLS games in a row before that loss. A run of form that has seen Patrick Vieira’s side move up to third in the table.
Toronto are also in good form, sitting second in the table, winning three out of their last four MLS games.
Both sides have plenty of goal threat in their attack, and there is certain to be goals in this game, with an over 2.5 goals bet priced at 13/20.
With both sides in good form, they are likely to cancel each other out, and a score draw looks likely, with a draw priced at 12/5.
A 2-2 draw at 10/1
Both sides have plenty of forward options, with David Villa for the hosts and Jozy Altidore for the visitors the main threats, and the goals should flow. NYC FC do not have a fantastic defensive record in recent games, only managing to keep one clean sheet in their last seven games.
Toronto to be leading after 15 minutes at 6/1
Toronto have a habit of scoring early in recent games. scoring inside the first twenty minutes of three out of their last six MLS games. Alongside this, the last two goals that NYC FC have conceded have been inside the first ten minutes of a game, against Vancouver and Minnesota United.
