Portland Timbers v FC Dallas Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
June 07, 2017
Sunday 11 June – Providence Park – Major League Soccer
It’s third against fourth in the MLS Western Conference in the early hours of Sunday morning, as the Portland Timbers host FC Dallas at Providence Park. Both teams are coming off the back of victories, but could use a win after stuttering in recent games. This fixture usually produces plenty of goals, so the betting could be on an exciting match.
FC Dallas have had the better of the meetings in recent years, unbeaten in their last five against Portland. The last win for Caleb Porter’s side came in November 2015, when former Premier League defender Liam Ridgewell opened the scoring in a 3-1 victory at Providence Park.
After spells on loan at Wigan and Brighton, Ridgewell is back captaining the Portland Timbers. He’ll start in central defence, charged with stopping the likes of Roland Lamah. Diego Valeri meanwhile goes in search of more goals after his brace against San Jose Earthquakes last weekend.
Belgian forward Lamah went one better for Dallas against Real Salt Lake last Sunday, bagging a first half hat-trick. Maxi Urruti and Tesho Akindele were both on the scoresheet too, and are expected to start up front together again in Oregon. Defender Walker Zimmerman misses out after injuring his knee against the Houston Dynamo.
Portland Timbers v FC Dallas Preview and Predictions
Prior to their win last weekend, third placed Dallas had gone four games without a victory. It was even worse for Portland after they went winless in five. Both teams need to rediscover their early season form, as they look to catch Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo above.
Finding the back of the net has been the problem for Portland in recent matches. After scoring 20 goals in their first nine games, the Timbers have managed just four in their last five. Valeri, who was MVP in the 2015 MLS Cup win, could be crucial to head coach Porter in this game. If you think the Argentinian can inspire his team to victory, the odds are 23/20 on a home win.
After winning the MLS Supporters’ Shield for the best regular season record in the last campaign, Dallas are looking for more this time round. If they can win their two games in hand they’ll have the best record in MLS. This would go some way to healing the wounds of their defeat in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League against eventual winners Pachuca. They start as 13/5 underdogs against Portland, while the draw’s available at 5/2.
Valeria to score in Portland win at 11/4
Enhance your odds on a win for the Portland Timbers by betting on Valeria to score in the game too.
Dallas to win and over 3.5 goals at 9/1
This game has seen lots of goals in recent years. 32 in the last eight in fact, making 9/1 on Dallas winning a goal fest a decent price.
