Porto v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
February 12, 2018
Estadio do Dragao - Champions League
Liverpool travel to Porto on Wednesday night looking to bring their strong recent domestic form into the Champions League knockout stages.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last four competitive meetings with Porto, drawing 1-1 away and winning 4-1 at Anfield in the 2007-08 Champions League group stages.
With an away 0-0 draw and a 2-0 home win in the knockout rounds of the 200-01 UEFA Cup.
Porto have a fully fit squad to pick from ahead of the visit of Liverpool to the Estadio do Dragao, with their only absentee Brazilian defender Felipe, who is suspended following red card in their last group stage game.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will hand fitness test to two of his defenders ahead of this crunch tie, with Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan both doubtful through injury. If they miss out, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip should start for the away side.
Nathaniel Clyne remains sidelined with a long term injury for Liverpool.
Porto v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
Liverpool look to have regained some of their swagger in recent weeks, comfortably beating Huddersfield and Southampton away from and picking up a draw against Tottenham at Anfield.
Porto are in brilliant form, top of the Portuguese league by two points, and unbeaten in domestic action all season - with just two defeats in the Champions League so far in 2017-18.
Liverpool will be a step up in terms of competition for the Portuguese side, but they look stronger than they have done in recent seasons in the Champions League, and this will be an intriguing battle.
With the advantage of a second leg at home, Klopp is unlikely to go for broke in this game, and a draw would be a positive result for Liverpool -which is priced at 13/5.
Despite wanting to keep things tight, Liverpool had continually show that they are not always able to keep things defensively solid this season, even with the addition of Virgil van Dijk.
Both sides have real goal threats in Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino for Liverpool, and Vincent Aboubakar and Moussa Marega for Porto, all banging the goals in this season - and an over 2.5 goals bet looks to be a good option, priced at 8/11.
A 2-2 draw at 11/1
Goals are an almost certainty in this game, despite Liverpool preferring to preserve something for the home leg next month. However the firepower that Porto have, alongside their own defensive shortcomings mean that goals are an almost inevitability.
Mo Salah to score first at 9/2
Salah has been the main man at Liverpool this season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions in his first season with the club and he shows little signs of slowing down, with five goals in his last four games. His speed and trickery will worry Porto, who struggled against Jean-Kevin Augustin and Timo Werner earlier this season.
