Seattle Sounders v DC United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
July 17, 2017
Thursday 20 July – CenturyLink Field – Major League Soccer
Current MLS Cup champions the Seattle Sounders welcome the joint-worst team in MLS, DC United, to the CenturyLink Field in the early hours of Thursday morning. The hosts need a win to keep up their hopes of making the post season once again, while DC’s chances are fading fast.
Past Meetings
Recent meetings between the sides don’t read well for the visitors. DC United haven’t beaten the Sounders since 2011, losing five of seven games and only scoring two goals in the process. Seattle ran out 2-0 winners at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium the last time the teams met in June last year.
Team News
Former Premier League star Clint Dempsey and fellow forward Will Bruin will provide the threat for the Seattle Sounders. The two Americans shared the goals between them in the Sounders’ last MLS outing, a 3-1 win at the Colorado Rapids.
For DC, Rob Vincent and Nick DeLeon could feature after respective knee and abdominal injuries. Bobby Boswell is expected to miss out with a groin problem, while Patrick Mullins is getting closer to fitness after knee surgery.
Seattle Sounders v DC United Preview and Predictions
It’s back to the bread and butter of MLS for the Seattle Sounders after Brian Schmetzer’s team drew against Eintracht Frankfurt in a friendly last week. They couldn’t have asked for a better fixture than this one, with DC United coming into the game off the back of four consecutive defeats in all competitions.
Seattle’s win over the Rapids in early July halted a run of four without a win in all competitions. The defending champions need to build on this, as they have some work to do to get into playoff position. The Vancouver Whitecaps have the same number of points but two games in hand, while San Jose and the Portland Timbers are in sight too.
The home team start this one as favourites with the bookmakers, and you can back them at 6/11. DC United meanwhile come into the game as huge underdogs at 28/5. With Ben Olsen’s side in desperate need of a win to have thoughts about making the MLS Cup Playoffs, they have to start winning soon. If you think the four-time MLS Cup champions can return from Seattle with a point, the draw’s priced at 10/3.
Recommended Bets
Seattle Sounders to win 2-0 at 7/1
Improve your odds on a Sounders win by betting on the hosts to beat DC 2-0 like they did last season.
Both teams not to score at evens
Only once in the last seven meetings between these two sides have both teams scored, making this a decent bet.
