Sevilla v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 20, 2017
Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan - Champions League
Liverpool travel to southern Spain for the penultimate round of Group E fixtures, as they play Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday. A win for the Reds would guarantee Jurgen Klopp’s side a place in the knockout stages.
The first meeting between these two teams in Group E ended in a 2-2 draw at Anfield. Sevilla struck first before Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead, with Joaquin Correa scoring the equaliser for the visitors. The only other time the clubs have met was in the 2016 Europa League final, which Sevilla won 3-1.
Sevilla’s hero last time out Correa should be available after missing the last few games. Former Manchester City forward Nolito could be the man to drop out of the side to make way for the Argentinian. Apart from that, there shouldn’t be too many changes from the team that beat Celta Vigo 2-1 on Saturday.
Liverpool meanwhile could make a number of changes as Klopp looks to keep his players fresh through the busy winter period. After impressing for England, Joe Gomez could return to the side after a rest at the weekend, along with midfielder Emre Can. Adam Lallana is nearing a return to action, although Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Matip will miss out.
Sevilla v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
Considering third placed Spartak Moscow face Maribor at home, this is a huge game for Sevilla and Liverpool. Both teams currently lie fifth on 22 points after 12 games in their respective leagues, and the fifth game of this Champions League group will go a long way to deciding who comes out on top.
Sevilla have been inconsistent across all competitions so far this season. They’ve taken a couple of pastings at the hands of Spartak Moscow and Valencia, but they’re still very much in the hunt for the top four in La Liga and progression to the knockout rounds in Europe. We wait to see how a team with strong European pedigree perform on Tuesday. Sevilla start this game as slight underdogs in the betting, and you can back them at 9/5 for the win.
Liverpool have also blown hot and cold this season, so it’s going to be interesting to see which incarnation of the Anfield outfit turns up too. After eight goals in his last six games, the Merseysiders will hope that Premier League top scorer Salah can continue his fine form. The bookmakers have the visitors at 28/17 to pick up the three points, while the draw’s priced at 13/5.
