Sheffield United v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 24, 2019
Bramall Lane - Premier League
Chris Wilder becomes the next manager tasked with stopping the Liverpool juggernaut as Sheffield United host the Reds at Bramall Lane on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s side have won 15 Premier League matches in a row, and have five-point lead over title rivals Manchester City at this early stage of the season.
This will be the first meeting between the teams in over 12 years. They last played each other in February 2007, with Liverpool winning 4-0 at Anfield courtesy of two Robbie Fowler penalties and goals from Sami Hyypia and Steven Gerrard. The Blades did claim a point in the first meeting of that season though, following a goalless draw at Bramall Lane.
Billy Sharp is still serving a suspension in this game following his recent red card against Southampton, while Kean Bryan is likely to miss out after picking up a knock. Apart from that, the home team have no other injury concerns ahead of this difficult assignment.
Sadio Mane is a doubt for this game after coming off against Chelsea on Sunday with a dead leg. With Divock Origi expected to miss out, Klopp will be hoping the Senegal international is fit to play. Naby Keita could make his return from injury, but Alisson and Nathaniel Clyne are out.
Sheffield United v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
Talk about a hot streak. After narrowly missing out on their first league title in the Premier League era last season, Liverpool have started the new campaign like a team possessed. Six wins from six leads them into this fixture against newly-promoted Sheffield United, who’ve equipped themselves very well on their return to the top flight.
The Blades are in the top half of the table after two win, two draws and two losses so far. Wilder’s side recorded their most impressive result to date in beating Everton 2-0 away from home on Saturday, seeing their manager win even more praise.
While United only actually managed one shot on target in that game and saw little possession, they defended wisely and showed incredible character to pick up the win. They’ll certainly need the same again this weekend, against the Premier League’s early pacesetters.
Liverpool have blasted in 17 goals so far, with their famed front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino accounting for 11 of those. Even if Mane isn’t fit, the Reds are full of danger going forward and strong at the back. They are the heavy favourites for the win at 4/11, while Sheffield United are 19/2 and the draw is 9/2.
Liverpool to win to nil at 7/5
They may have only kept one clean sheet in eight matches in all competitions so far this season, but the visitors will dominate possession and present few chances to their hosts.
Salah to score first at 7/2
If Mane doesn’t make it then Salah won’t be caught in any minds when it comes to passing the ball with a sight of goal, and the Egyptian rarely misses.
