December 13, 2018
St. Mary's Stadium - Premier League
Arsenal travel to the South Coast on Sunday, with Unai Emery's side looking to extend their unbeaten run to 15 Premier League games.
Arsenal beat Southampton 3-2 at home last season, with the Saints claiming a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture. The Gunners do have a good recent record against Southampton, unbeaten in their last five Premier League meetings.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl will make a late decision on the returns of Cedric Soares, Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings, who all missed his first game in charge against Cardiff.
Republic of Ireland duo Shane Long and Michael Obafemi are both already ruled out through injury.
Arsenal will be without defenders Sokratis through suspension and Stefan Lichsteiner and Shkodran Mustafi through injury, alongside ACL victim Rob Holding, meaning that Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal could both be accelerated back into the starting XI.
Midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil both face late fitness tests, while Danny Welbeck remains sidelined until 2019.
Southampton v Arsenal Predictions and Preview
Southampton new man in charge received a robust welcome to Premier League football, with a 1-0 defeat away at Cardiff, making it 12 Premier League games without a win for Southampton.
Arsenal on the other hand are in very consistent form, showing grit to dig out results against Manchester United and Huddersfield in recent weeks, as they extend their excellent run of results.
Emery has instilled an extra layer of steel into this squad, and they will want to keep their momentum going as the battle for the top four heats up.
Time will tell whether or not Hasenhuttl is the man to keep Southampton in the Premier League, but he is unlikely to get much in this clash - with an away win at 10/11.
Arsenal have been in great goal scoring form also, with seven goals in their last three Premier League games, and they will look to put Southampton to the sword with a strong showing, and an over 2.5 total goals scored bet is at 8/13.
Arsenal to win 3-1 at 14/1
Emery's side have been ruthless against side in the bottom of the table this season, with comfortable wins over Watford, West Ham, Cardiff, Newcastle, Fulham and Crystal Palace, and it is expected to be more of the same against Southampton this weekend.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score anytime at 11/10
Aubameyang is the leading Premier League scorer this season, joint with Liverpool's Mo Salah, and he will want to build on his numbers against a Southampton side lacking in confidence in recent weeks.
