Southampton v Burnley Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 31, 2017
St. Mary's Stadium - Premier League
Burnley travel to the south coast on Sunday full of confidence after a battling win over Newcastle on Monday night at Turf Moor.
It was a case of honours even between these two in the 2016-17 Premier League, with both picking up a home win, Burnley winning 1-0 at Turf Moor and Southampton 3-1 at St. Mary's Stadium.
Burnley's last positive result away at Southampton came back in 2009 through a 2-2 draw, with their last winning coming in 2008, both results were secured as both clubs were in the Championship.
Sean Dyche has no fresh injury concerns ahead of his side's long trip to the south coast, with three long term injury absentees the only players ruled out of this one.
Dean Marney is back in training following a long term knee injury, but he is well short of match fitness at the moment. Jon Walters misses out with a knee injury, and goal keeper Tom Heaton is out until the New Year with a fractured shoulder. Jeremy Pied is also sidelined with a thigh problem.
Southampton v Burnley Preview and Predictions
Both teams are in a relatively solid run of form in recent games, with Southampton picking up draws at home to Newcastle and away to Brighton - either side of a win over West Brom at St. Mary's Stadium.
Burnley beat Newcastle on Monday night to six games with just one defeat - against Manchester City - and move the Clarets up to seventh in the Premier League table in the process.
Despite the mounting speculation surrounding Dyche and his continued position at Burnley and the links with a move to the vacant managerial position at Everton, Burnley continue to pick up results, however there is the potential that they could be without their manager by the time Saturday's game rolls around.
With both sides in a relatively even run of form currently, this game looks destined to be a draw on Saturday, which is currently priced at 14/5.
Neither side are on fire in front of goal at the moment, with Southampton scoring five goals in their last five games and Burnley netting just three in their last five. With that in mind this likely to be a low scoring affair on the south coast, with an under 2.5 goals bet a very good option - currently priced at 8/15.
A 1-1 draw at 7/1
Burnley have real form for drawing matches away from Turf Moor this season, after drawing against Tottenham, Liverpool, Huddersfield and West Ham on the road in the Premier League so far in 2017-18. Likewise Southampton have racked up draws against Swansea and Newcastle on home soil this season, this should see both sides cancelling each other out somewhat.
Chris Wood to score first at 6/1
New Zealand striker Wood has been excellent since his summer move to Burnley from Leeds United, netting vital goals against Tottenham, Crystal Palace and West Ham so far this season. His aerial power and physical threat will be a real concern for the Southampton defence, and the Clarets will look to play on that.
