Southampton v Everton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 15, 2019
St. Mary's Stadium - Premier League
Everton head to the south coast this weekend to face Southampton, as Marco Silva's side look to build on last weekend's win over Bournemouth.
Everton won 2-1 against Southampton earlier this season, with Theo Walcott and Richarlison on target for Silva's side at Goodison Park. However The Saints did exact some revenge, with a penalty shoot out win in the EFL Cup, on Merseyside.
Southampton will be without full back Yan Valery, who serves a one match ban following his red card against Leicester last weekend. Key duo Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings should both be back fit, but Mario Lemina and Michael Obafemi are both ruled out through injury.
Everton have a fully fit squad to chose from, with Brazilian pair Richarlison and Bernard both expected to shake off minor injuries.
Southampton v Everton Predictions and Preview
Southampton's positive run of form under new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl continued with a 2-1 win at Leicester last time out, making it three Premier League wins from their last five. The Saints are still firmly in a relegation battle, with just a point separating them from the drop zone, and they will need a positive result this weekend to keep their momentum going.
Everton dug deep to seal all three points against Eddie Howe's Bournemouth last weekend, bringing to an end a two game winless streak in league action. The Toffees are in the hunt for Europa League qualification come the end of the season, however they will need to show greater consistency away from home if they are to clinch it.
There is little to pick between these two sides, based on recent form, although Everton do have the edge on league standing. With that in mind, a draw, priced at 11/5, could be a promising option.
Southampton have scored four in their last four games in league and cup games, with Everton netting seven, and this game is unlikely to be a goal fest for fans - and an under 2.5 total goals scored bet is available at 10/11.
A 1-1 draw at 11/2
Both sides know what they need to do in the coming weeks to remain on course to achieve their end of season objectives, however there is a sense that they will cancel each other out this weekend. Southampton have rediscovered their confidence, and The Toffees have won just one of their last six games away from home.
Nathan Redmond to score anytime at 5/2
Midfielder Redmond is expected to remain in the starting line up this weekend, after being withdrawn during the win at the King Power Stadium with a back injury. He is bang in form for the hosts, with three goals in his last four starts for the south coast club.
