Southampton v Huddersfield Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 19, 2017
St. Mary's Stadium - Premier League
Southampton host Huddersfield this weekend, with both sides in dire need of points following recent results in the Premier League.
This game ended in a 0-0 draw when these two sides met on the opening day of the Premier League season back in August.
Southampton won 4-1, the last time Huddersfield visited the south coast back in 2010, when both sides were in League One. The Terriers last at Southampton came back in 1971 in the Old First Division.
Huddersfield will be without midfielder Johnathan Hogg, as he serves a one game ban following his red card against Watford at the weekend.
Elias Kachunga is still out with a knee injury, but Chris Lowe could return from a foot injury to boost Huddersfield. Paul Billing and Michael Hefele are both out of action until the new year.
Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino has no new injury worries ahead of the visit of Huddersfield to Hampshire this weekend, however he could be set for a tactical reshuffle as he looks to alter their fortunes.
Southampton v Huddersfield Preview and Predictions
Huddersfield picked up a morale boosting win away at Watford last weekend, beating Marco Silva's side 4-1 at Vicarage Road, to make it two wins from their last seven games.
Southampton's recent run is nowhere near as positive as their opponents, with the Saints without a win in their last five Premier League games.
It is difficult to pick a favourite in this meeting, as despite Huddersfield's better recent results, they do also have a tendency to capitulate in key games this season. Alongside this, Southampton's do have the better players available to them, although Pellegrino is yet to really find a winning formula for his side.
A draw looks to be a more realistic outcome in this game, priced at 11/4.
Neither side is particularly in great goal scoring form, with Huddersfield's win at Watford boosting their goals scored tally disproportionately in recent weeks. With that in mind, an under 2.5 goals bet looks to be the best option in this one, priced at 8/11.
A 1-1 draw at 7/1
Southampton are in need of a result and a strong performance in front of their home fans, and a defeat could have serious implications for Pellegrino's future at the club. Huddersfield meanwhile will be happy with a point, as they look to settle themselves after a tough autumn.
Charlie Austin to score first at 3/1
Austin is the Saints top scorer so far this five goals this season - despite just starting just four games in the Premier League this season. His power and ability to unsettle defences with his work rate will be cause for concern for Huddersfield.
