St. Mary's Stadium - Premier League

Manchester City head to Southampton for their final game of 2018, with Pep Guardiola's side in dire need of a positive result to end the year.

Past Meetings

Manchester City hammered Southampton 6-1 when they met earlier this season at the Etihad Stadium, extending their winning run over The Saints to four games.

Southampton's last win over Guardiola's side came back in the 2015-16 season, with a 4-2 home victory.

Team News

Southampton will make a latte call on captain Ryan Bertrand, after he missed the last two months with a back injury. However fellow midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is back in the squad following a one game ban, after collecting five yellow cards so far this season.
City will be without England international Fabian Delph, as he starts a three game ban following his red card against Leicester City, in their last game.

Gabriel Jesus should recover from a minor injury in time to play, but fellow Brazilian international Fernandinho, and club captain Vincent Kompany are both sidelined.

Southampton v Manchester City Predictions and Preview

Southampton threw away a lead in their last game, at home to West Ham, losing 2-1 to Manuel Pellegrini's side, ending a run of back to back wins for them over the festive period.

They face a tough ask against a City side that is fighting to remain in the title race, and they would have benefited from the confidence boost of holding on against The Hammers.

City trail league leaders Liverpool by seven points following successive losses to Crystal Palace and Leicester in their last two games and Guardiola needs a reaction from his players.

They have a chance to challenge Liverpool directly in the game that follows this tie, but they need points on the board on the south coast - and an away win is available at 3/10.

Southampton have not been great defensively in recent games, conceding nine goals in their last five games, and if City are in the mood, they should be goals in this one - with an over 2.5 total goals scored priced at 8/15.

January will be make or break for City as they look to defend their Premier League title, and they will want to head into the new year with a statement result. Much of what happens in the next few weeks could be out of their hands, but they will want to get back winning games as soon as possible.

Kevin De Bruyne to score anytime at 11/5

Belgian international De Bruyne has been in goal scoring form for City since his return from a long term knee injury, netting two goals in his last three appearances. He should be in from the start in this clash, and he will be a constant threat to the home defenders,
