Southampton v Manchester City Predictions and Betting Tips
April 12, 2017
Saturday 15 April – St Mary’s Stadium – Premier League
Southampton come into Saturday’s evening kick off against Manchester City looking for their third consecutive victory in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side meanwhile are still fighting for a top four finish and Champions League qualification, and will start as favourites in the betting.
Manchester City have had the better of Southampton over recent years. However the Saints recorded a 4-2 victory in this fixture last season, with Sadio Mane scoring a hat trick. They also left the Etihad with a point earlier in this campaign, after securing a 1-1 draw.
With no Mane to rely on these days, Southampton will hope that Manolo Gabbiadini is fit enough to return at the weekend. The striker has missed the last three games with a groin problem he suffered before the international break.
For City, club captain Vincent Kompany doesn’t have much time to convince his manager of his ability to stay fit. The Belgian turned 31 on Monday, but was only able to make the bench for the win over Hull last weekend. A good run in the side until the end of the season, starting on Saturday, could be enough to persuade Guardiola to keep the faith in him.
Southampton v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
The race for the top four continues to ebb and flow as each of the contenders conspires to drop points. Failure to qualify for the Champions League would be a massive blow for Guardiola, but City are still in a great position with seven games to go. They have the better of the fixture list, and a chance to put points on the board at the weekend before their rivals play.
Southampton meanwhile are hunting down West Brom for the right to finish eighth placed in the Premier League. Claude Puel’s side beat the Baggies last time out to close the gap to just four points, with the Saints having two games in hand. The south coast club start as 19/5 underdogs to keep up their good run against City.
After picking up a single point from their last two away games against Arsenal and Chelsea, it’s another tricky test for the Blues at St Mary’s. Win this though and it’d really set City up for their run-in, which includes an FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal. Guardiola’s men are favourites in the betting at 4/5, while the draw’s at 3/1.
Both teams to score at 9/13
City’s attacking threat and vulnerability at the back makes this a good bet for both teams to score.
Aguero to score anytime at evens
With 10 goals in his last 10 games in all competitions, Aguero’s on a red hot streak right now. Although the odds aren’t very long, this one seems like a safe bet.
