Stoke City v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 19, 2017
Bet365 Stadium - Premier League
Stoke welcome Chelsea to the Bet365 on Saturday afternoon, as both sides look to put last weekend’s disappointing results behind them. Mark Hughes’ side will need to tighten up a lot at the back if they want to stand a chance against the visitors.
Chelsea have had plenty of success against Stoke in recent years, winning 13 of the 18 Premier League meetings between the teams. A late Gary Cahill goal secured a 2-1 win for the Blues at the Bet365 last season, while the defender also kicked off the scoring in a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Ryan Shawcross is nearing a return for the Potters, and the captain’s presence in what’s likely to be another back three would be a massive boost for Hughes. Julien Ngoy could feature after a thigh strain, although Geoff Cameron’s out until the end of the month.
Chelsea’s deadline day signing Danny Drinkwater has suffered a calf injury, and won’t make his debut for the club until October. Pedro’s also a slight doubt for Saturday’s game after taking a knock to his ankle in the draw against Arsenal.
Stoke City v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
It’s been a tough start to the season so far for Stoke, and things don’t get any easier when Chelsea come to town at the weekend. Although the Potters will be relatively pleased at this point considering their fixtures, their performance against Chelsea could be real indicator of their capabilities this season.
After an impressive win over Arsenal and battling draw against Manchester United, Stoke were pretty awful in their defeat at Newcastle last time out, particularly at the back. With just five goals in five games so far in the Premier League, Stoke are hardly big scorers so they’ll need to do a good job of keeping Chelsea at bay to have any chance of a result.
The visitors bring plenty of firepower to the table, with new signing Alvaro Morata looking good and Eden Hazard starting to find his form. There was an air of doom and gloom at Stamford Bridge after what was perceived as a poor transfer window, but they’re only three points behind the Manchester pair at the top of the table.
There’ll be testing times for Antonio Conte’s squad when the Champions League fixtures hot up, but they go into this game as 8/13 favourites in the betting. Stoke are available at 11/2, while the draw’s priced at 13/4.
Eden Hazard to score first and Chelsea to win at 9/4
Back Hazard to get his first goal of the campaign to set Chelsea on their way to victory.
Stoke to win 1-0 at 16/1
If the Potters claim the victory it’s likely to be a tight game, so bet on them to repeat the scoreline they beat Arsenal by.
