Swansea City v Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 29, 2018
Liberty Stadium - Premier League
Arsene Wenger takes his Arsenal team to South Wales to face bottom of the pile Swansea, with a renewed sense of optimism around the Gunners. With new signings and a League Cup final to look forward to, catching the top four is the order of the day for the Emirates outfit.
Arsenal have won their last three games against Swansea, including a 2-1 success earlier this season when the Gunners came from behind to secure the three points. The Swans won three of the four games prior to that run though, and the Liberty faithful will hope they can recapture that sort of form on Tuesday.
Renato Sanches is the only injury doubt for Swansea ahead of this one, after the midfielder went off in the first half of the draw at Notts County on Saturday. Swans boss Carlos Carvalhal has some tough decisions to make in attack, with the likes of Wilfried Bony, Jordan Ayew, Tammy Abraham and the weekend’s goalscorer Luciano Narsingh all in contention.
Olivier Giroud could make his final appearance in an Arsenal shirt, as the French striker seems set to leave the Emirates before the transfer window closes. He’s recovered from a thigh problem and could be handed a place on the bench, with Danny Welbeck unable to feature once again for the Gunners.
Swansea City v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
Carvalhal has only lost one game in charge of Swansea, and if he can keep that record intact against Arsenal then it’d be a great result for the hosts. Dropping points against the Premier League’s bottom club simply isn’t an option for Arsenal if they want to finish in the Champions League places though.
Despite being taken to an FA Cup replay by League Two Notts County, the Swans should be full of confidence after beating Liverpool in their last outing in the league. It’s been a time of change for Arsenal over the last week or two, and Swansea will look to take advantage of any lingering feelings of turmoil. The hosts are priced at 13/2 to get a win that could see them rise out of the relegation places, depending on how the other midweek results go.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan could make his Arsenal debut at the Liberty, while the Gunners could have another new name on their books by the time we kick off on Tuesday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks set to join Wenger’s side, so along with Mkhitaryan who was jettisoned from Manchester United to make way for Alexis Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette will have a point to prove in this game. The visitors are 8/15 to pick up a win that would see them keep pace with the top four, while the draw’s available at 18/5.
Lacazette to score and Arsenal to win at 33/10
The Frenchman seems set to be replaced as Arsenal’s record signing, but he’ll be out to show that he’s not going to be replaced in the starting lineup as well.
Arsenal to win 2-0 at 7/1
The Gunners should have too much for Swansea despite a spirited effort from the hosts. Add Lacazette as the first scorer and the odds increase to 25/1, while it’s 28/1 with Mkhitaryan to bag first.
