Swansea City v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 18, 2018
Liberty Stadium - Premier League
In-form Liverpool head to South Wales to face Swansea on Monday night, on the back of their pulsating victory over Manchester City. The Swans meanwhile are still rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
It was a Boxing Day massacre at Anfield last month, as Liverpool smashed Swansea for five without reply. The Swans did beat the Reds 3-2 on Merseyside last season, and were 3-1 victors at the Liberty the season before. Prior to that game, Liverpool won five on the bounce against the South Wales side.
Swansea could have three players back in the team as they bid to stave off relegation, with Tammy Abraham, Renato Sanches and Angel Rangel all close to full fitness. Other than that, Mike van der Hoorn is the only other injury concern for the hosts.
Jurgen Klopp could go one better, with a quartet of players in with a chance of returning to the fold. Virgil van Dijk, Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno and Jordan Henderson are all in with a shot, although Nathaniel Clyne continues to miss out.
Swansea v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
Both of these sides come should come into the game in a positive mood, after Swansea were victorious in their FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday, and Liverpool ended City’s unbeaten run last weekend. There’s no denying the fact that the visitors are the heavy favourites though, and they should pick up the points.
The Swans can treat this game as a free hit, which could make them dangerous if the midweek match winner Wilfried Bony is in bullish mood. The bottom half of the Premier League is so tightly bunched that a couple of wins could easily see Carlos Carvalhal’s side rise to the safety of mid-table, and with Arsenal next up at the Liberty, victory on Monday would be a massive boost. Swansea start the game as huge underdogs though, as long as 12/1 in the betting.
Liverpool have had all week to prepare for this game, and their superior freshness should only add to their supremacy. If the attacking trident of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane produce the sort of form they’re capable of, then a win for the visitors at 1/3 looks like a pretty safe bet. If they’re not on their game though, then the draw at 5/1 could come into play.
Salah to score and Liverpool to win at 3/1
With 13 goals in his last 13 games, this bet could be a great way to enhance your odds on the away win.
Liverpool to win to nil at 21/20
Swansea are the lowest scorers in the Premier League with just 14 goals from their 23 games so far this term, and the Reds defence has been boosted by Van Dijk’s arrival.
