Swansea City v West Brom Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
May 17, 2017
Sunday 21 May – Liberty Stadium – Premier League
It’s party time for Swansea City on the final day of the season, as Paul Clement’s team host West Brom at the Liberty Stadium. The Swans’ Premier League survival was assured when Crystal Palace beat Hull at the weekend, which looked in doubt for much of the campaign.
Swansea have won four of their last five home games against the Baggies, conceding just three goals in the process. Salomon Rondon scored a hat trick in a 3-1 win for West Brom at the Hawthorns earlier this season. This could give the out of form visitors some confidence going into this one.
There could be a surprise return for Angel Rangel on the cards, after the Swansea defender broke his foot just a couple of months ago. Wayne Routledge could also make the game after struggling with a hernia problem.
Tony Pulis meanwhile could call on defender Gareth McAuley, who’s expected to return after a thigh injury. Matt Phillips is a major doubt after the winger suffered another hamstring injury. Other than that the Baggies have a full squad available for the last game of the campaign.
Swansea City v West Brom Preview and Predictions
There will be equal amounts of joy and relief at the Liberty on Sunday, as Swansea get to celebrate beating the drop in front of their own fans. For West Brom, it seems like the season can’t end soon enough. The Baggies have been on an awful run, and after looking certain to finish eighth, could end the campaign in the bottom half of the table.
Swansea’s status as a Premier League club was under huge threat for the majority of this season. After the disastrous Bob Bradley reign though, new man Clement has steadied the ship and made his team much harder to beat. With more resilience at the back, a group of players that are talented on the ball have managed to save the season. Although the Swans no longer need to reach the magical 40-point mark, they can do with one last win.
Despite their lowly position, the bookmakers have the home team as favourites at 21/20. This has much to do with West Brom’s form, which has seen them win just one of their last 11 games. The Baggies go into this one at 10/3, while the draw’s available at 13/5.
Swansea to win 3-0 at 19/1
Back the Swans to put on a show for their fans on the final day of the season. West Brom have looked lacklustre for a number of weeks now, and could cave in once more.
Gylfi Sigurdsson to score from outside the box at 10/3
The Icelandic playmaker has been in superb form during the Premier League run-in, and it wouldn’t be a shock for him to bag from outside the box either in open play or from a free kick.
