Liberty Stadium - Premier League

Swansea host Burnley at the Liberty on Saturday, with the South Wales club in excellent form ahead of this Premier League encounter. The visitors’ form could hardly be different, although the Clarets did take a point off Manchester City last time out.

Past Meetings

Goals from Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes handed Burnley a 2-0 win at Turf Moor back in November, while Swansea did the double over Sean Dyche’s side last season. The game at the Liberty was an exciting affair that ended 3-2 to the hosts, eventually settled by a 92nd minute winner from Fernando Llorente.

Team News

On-loan midfielder Renato Sanches is expected to miss the next month with a thigh injury, which won’t be the biggest loss for Swansea considering some of the reports that were coming out of the club regarding player mutiny over his inclusion in the side.

Andre Ayew is fit to make his second debut for the Swans, and could partner his brother Jordan in attack for the first time since their Marseille days. Wilfried Bony and Leroy Fer have both been ruled out for the rest of the season though, in a major blow for boss Carlos Carvalhal.

Burnley’s injury list also makes for tough reading for Clarets fans, with Robbie Brady and Steven Defour out for the remainder of the campaign. Chris Wood has a knee ligament problem and misses out along with Jonathan Walters, although James Tarkowski and Stephen Ward could return to the team.

Swansea v Burnley Preview and Predictions

Aside from the Sanches issue and injuries to Bony and Fer, things could hardly have gone much better for Carvalhal since taking over at the Liberty. The picture at Burnley is looking a lot less rosy than it was a month or two ago though.

Swansea smashed eight goals past Notts County in the FA Cup on Tuesday, which was Carvalhal’s 10th game in charge. The only defeat so far came against Tottenham at the start of January, while the run includes impressive wins over Liverpool and Arsenal. The Swans are out of the relegation places and 6/4 for the victory in this one, as they look to climb away from the drop zone.

Burnley on the other hand are without a win in their own last 10 games. Despite still occupying seventh place in the Premier League table and the encouragement of holding City to a draw at Turf Moor last weekend, the Clarets have dropped right into the clutches of the chasing pack. Even though it could turn out to be a poisoned chalice, securing European football would be an incredible achievement for Dyche and Burnley.

The visitors are priced at 12/5 to pick up an important three points in South Wales, although a draw wouldn’t be the worst result against the in-form Swans, and the bookmakers have this at 2/1.

Recommended Bets

Swansea to win to nil at 7/2

The hosts are in superb form and should be full of confidence after their recent exploits, while Burnley don’t score many. The visitors have a solid defence though so 1-0 to the Swans looks tempting at 11/2.

Ayew to score and Swansea to win

Which one, we hear you say! Jordan is 7/2 for this bet, while returning Andre is 4/1. If they bag the only goal of the game, the odds increase to 16/1 and 18/1 respectively.
