Swansea v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 24, 2018
Liberty Stadium - Premier League
Swansea look for their first win in six games as they host Chelsea on Saturday, bidding to stay clear of the relegation zone. Chelsea are on a high, after qualifying for the FA Cup final in their last game, and have won their last three in a row.
Chelsea earned a narrow victory when the two sides clashed at Stamford Bridge back in November. Despite creating a host of chances, the Blues struggled to finish them off, and it took a second half goal from centre back, Antonio Rudiger to secure all three points for Antonio Conte's side.
Swansea captain Federico Fernandez is an injury doubt, after going off injured against Manchester City. Sam Clucas, however, was able to make a return against the Champions, with Renato Sanches chasing a return and Luciano Narsingh are also in contention.
Antonio Conte may be tempted to mix up his team, with Timiene Bakayoko and Ross Barkley both theoretically match fit. Pedro may also be in contention to start, having been benched for the Blues FA Cup win over Southampton on Sunday. David Luiz and Ethan Ampadu both remain long-term injuries, whilst Danny Drinkwater's fitness is in doubt.
Swansea v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Swansea's fantastic form in January and February that fired the Welsh side out of the relegation zone has fallen off in recent weeks. Carlos Carvalhal's side only managed to draw against West Ham and West Brom before losing last weekend to Man City. If he is to maintain the four point cap over Southampton in 18th, the Swans are going to have to get back to their best for the remaining few weeks.
Chelsea have had, by Conte's own admission, a disappointing season, although the Blues overcame Southampton to progress to the FA Cup final last weekend. Regardless of whether they get the trophy, failure to qualify for the Champions League makes for a poor return, and this looks highly likely given the five point gap between fourth place.
If Chelsea are to have any hope of overtaking Tottenham or Liverpool they absolutely have to win on Saturday, however, Swansea may not be as easy an opponent as it seems. Jordan Ayew has been on fire since signing for the Swans over the summer, and has scored in three out of his last five games. As Tammy Abraham is ineligible to play against his parent club, Ayew is likely to start up front on his own and will pose a real threat to Chelsea's uncharacteristically shaky defence.
Olivier Giroud to score anytime at 6/4
The Chelsea forward struggled to break into the starting XI but, having done so, has been in fantastic form, scoring a classy goal against Southampton.
Over 2.5 goals scored at 33/20
Swansea have struggled to keep clean sheets, and will need to attack Chelsea if they want the win.
