Swansea v Crystal Palace Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 19, 2017
Liberty Stadium - Premier League
Swansea host Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, with Swans boss Paul Clement facing mounting pressure as his team props up the Premier League table. The Eagles are flying high at the moment and will provide a stern test for the South Wales club.
Swansea have won their last three games against Palace, including a 2-0 victory at Selhurst Park towards the end of August. Last season an injury time double from Fernando Llorente settled a helter-skelter contest which ended 5-4 to the Swans, before they backed it up with a 2-1 victory in south London.
Wilfried Bony won’t be scoring any goals for Swansea after he strained his hamstring in the opening minute of Monday’s defeat at Everton. After losing his place to the Ivorian, Tammy Abraham could return to the starting lineup, while Sung-Yueng Ki and Wayne Routledge could both feature for the hosts.
Roy Hodgson will be without his own imposing striker, after Christian Benteke picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at the weekend. His suspension could mean Bakary Sako gets a start, after his composed finish against Leicester wrapped up a convincing win for Palace last time out.
Swansea v Crystal Palace Preview and Predictions
It wasn’t too long ago that Crystal Palace were being written off as relegation favourites, but the Eagles have been highly impressive of late. Now it’s the Swans who look like they’ve had their wings clipped, but a victory for Clement’s side would haul them to within two points of Saturday’s visitors.
This weekend marks the halfway point of the Premier League season, and Swansea are currently bottom with just 12 points. Win and there’s plenty of hope, but lose and another rival pulls away from them and Clement’s position will surely become untenable.
With Bony out, the Swans will look to the likes of Jordan Ayew for their attacking threat, and hope that Abraham can score his first goal for two months. They start as slight underdogs in the betting at 2/1.
In Benteke’s absence, Wilfried Zaha is likely to lead the line for Palace. The tricky forward’s in great form at the moment, and his pace can cause plenty of problems for Swansea’s defence.
After being rooted to the bottom of the table for the first few months of the season, the Eagles could pull five points clear of the relegation zone with a win, depending on how other results pan out. Palace are available at 13/8 for the win, while the draw’s priced at 11/5.
Zaha to score and Crystal Palace to win at 7/2
Back the talented forward to continue his impressive form and potentially condemn Swans boss Clement to the sack.
Swansea to win from behind at 15/1
Or bet on the hosts to show some character as they battle back from going behind to secure a win that saves their manager’s job.
