Swansea v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 15, 2017
Liberty Stadium - Premier League
Swansea City look for their first win of the new Premier League season, as they welcome Manchester United to the Liberty Stadium. It’s a tough assignment for Paul Clement’s side, after United were impressive against West Ham on Sunday.
Manchester United have won two and drawn one in their last three games against Swansea, including a 3-1 win at the Liberty last season. However, these three games came after a run of three straight Premier League victories for the Swans against United.
The early part of Swansea’s season continues to be dominated by star man Gylfi Sigurdsson as the Icelandic playmaker’s protracted move to Everton means Clement has to wait to make new signings. The Swans boss also waits for Fernando Llorente, Ki Sung-yueng and Nathan Dyer to return from injury.
Visiting manager Jose Mourinho is also without long term absentees Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo. The Portuguese must decide whether to hand Victor Lindelof a place in the squad, after the Swedish defender missed out against West Ham. Ander Herrera could return to the lineup to strengthen the Reds’ midfield in this away fixture.
Swansea v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Last season Swansea were the last of 10 Premier League sides to leave Old Trafford with a draw. Another point against Manchester United wouldn’t be the worst result for the South Wales club, although all three would be a fantastic catalyst for Clement and his players.
Victory would also give Swansea a greater edge when it comes to negotiating with potential new signings. So far, Spanish midfielder Roque Mesa is the only player to have cost a transfer fee. Tammy Abraham - on loan from Chelsea - put in an encouraging performance against Southampton at the weekend, but Clement needs more firepower if his side are to stand any chance of staying up once Sigurdsson leaves.
A lack of firepower isn’t something United need to worry about. Romelu Lukaku bagged a brace on his debut, while the likes of Marcus Rashford impressed and Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial also scored. The betting could be on a few goals at the Liberty, and United’s options up front sees them start as favourites.
Mourinho’s side are available at 2/5 to make it two wins from two. Swansea meanwhile are priced as long as 10/1 to pick up their first victory, while the draw’s 4/1.
Swansea to win 2-1 at 30/1
All of Swansea’s recent consecutive wins against United ended 2-1. Back the hosts to repeat this and record another impressive victory against Mourinho’s men.
Both teams to score at 11/8
This bet would’ve paid out in ten of the last 11 games between the two clubs. If you think United will win but Swansea will still score, it’s 11/4.
