Swansea v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
May 07, 2018
Liberty Stadium - Premier League
Southampton need to pick themselves up from their weekend disappointment as Mark Hughes’ side travel to Swansea City on Tuesday. Both teams are playing for their Premier League lives, making this a colossal clash for each side.
Southampton had won three in four against Swansea until the teams played out a goalless draw at St Mary’s back in August. Home form doesn’t seem to count for much in this fixture, with half of the last eight games between the sides ending in an away win.
Swans boss Carlos Carvalhal will be without Wilfried Bony, Kyle Bartley and Leroy Fer, who are all sidelined through injury. However, Kyle Naughton is in with a chance of being available after an illness.
For the visitors, Steven Davis and Mario Lemina are out with respective Achilles and hamstring problems. In another blow for manager Hughes, Maya Yoshida is suspended after his sending off at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Swansea v Southampton Preview and Predictions
Swansea and Southampton start this game locked on 33 Premier League points, with two games left to play. The Saints have a much better goal difference, which could turn out to be crucial, while West Brom’s fate also rests on the outcome of this midweek encounter.
If either of these two teams are victorious, the Baggies will be down. A draw will mean that we go into the final day of the season with three clubs vying for one place in the top flight next season. With so much pressure on this game, a stalemate could be on the cards, and that’s priced at 12/5 in the betting.
Swansea are also available at 12/5, as they look for their first victory in eight Premier League fixtures. In all truth, the Swans would probably take a point ahead of this game, as although they'd still be in the bottom three heading into Sunday’s finale, they have relegated Stoke at home while Southampton play champions Manchester City at St Mary’s.
The Saints start this one as favourites though, priced at 7/5. Tom Davies’ 96th-minute equaliser was gut-wrenching last time out, but Southampton have a great chance to get the win they need against a badly out-of-form Swansea side.
The score draw at 15/4
Both teams will surely go for it, so there’s a good chance both will find themselves on the scoresheet. This bet would see West Brom live to fight another day.
One-goal winning margin at 5/4
Or if you fancy one team to record a massive victory that would likely relegate both their opponents and the Baggies, it’s likely to be by a narrow margin.
