Tottenham v Burnley Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 11, 2018
Wembley Stadium - Premier League
Burnley will be looking to take advantage of Tottenham’s daunting trip to the Nou Camp in midweek, but Spurs are still the heavy favourites on Saturday. The north London outfit have been strong at Wembley this season, while their visitors are hovering just above the relegation zone.
Since Burnley were promoted to the Premier League in 2014, Tottenham have won five of their eight meetings, drawing the other three. That includes last season’s game at Wembley, where Chris Wood scored an injury-time equaliser for the Clarets to claim a 1-1 draw.
Mauricio Pochettino’s ability to shuffle his pack will be hampered by an injury list that could include Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez, Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama. Juan Foyth is expected to be available though after a thigh problem.
Sean Dyche only has two outfield players causing him headaches coming into this tough assignment. Stephen Ward is out with a knee injury, while Steven Defour has a knee issue of his own and is a doubt. Goalkeeper Nick Pope is getting close to a return.
Tottenham v Burnley Preview and Predictions
Burnley may have battled their way to their third victory of the season at home to Brighton last weekend, and Tottenham may have the added complication of a trip to Barcelona on Tuesday night, but there’s no doubt who the favourites are this weekend.
Tottenham have put the disappointment of their defeat in the north London derby firmly behind them with back-to-back Premier League victories, and this is a pretty ideal home game after a European away day if truth be told.
Burnley are nowhere near the same battling force they were last season, and they’re struggling at both ends. Their defence has already conceded 32 goals, with only bottom club Fulham letting in more at this stage. With the likes of Kane, Son, Alli and Eriksen around, Spurs have the players to carve their visitors open and take the chances that come their way.
Tottenham are the 1/5 favourites for the win, while Burnley are priced at 19/1. The Clarets are only two points clear of the bottom three, and they need some good results over Christmas if they’re going to pull themselves clear of the relegation zone. A point here would be an excellent result, and it’s priced at 7/1.
Tottenham to win to nil at 37/40
Spurs beat Burnley 3-0 the last time the teams played each other, and despite a few setbacks, Pochettino’s side are looking like they mean business this term.
Harry Kane to score first at 19/10
The Spurs striker is the main man when it comes to tucking the goals away, and he should be relatively fresh for this game after only playing 20 minutes at Leicester last weekend.
