Wembley Stadium - Premier League
Cardiff City take their winless record to Wembley on Saturday afternoon, when they face Tottenham in the latest round of Premier League fixtures. There doesn’t look like there’s much chance of the Bluebirds breaking their duck in this one though, with Spurs returning to form in recent weeks.
These two teams were last in the Premier League together back in 2013/14, with Tottenham winning both of the meetings 1-0. Before that, the clubs hadn’t face each other since 1962, apart from an FA Cup tie which Spurs won 4-0 in a replay.
The hosts could be without a raft of first team players for this game. Jan Vertonghen went off injured at the weekend and is a doubt, joining the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Moussa Dembele on the treatment table.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Lee Peltier miss out for the away side, with both players ruled out until December at the earliest. Aron Gunnarsson could be available after a knee injury though, and he’s set for a late fitness test.
Tottenham v Cardiff City Preview and Predictions
There may be worse places for Cardiff to have to go as they look for their first victory of the season - but not many. Tottenham are back on form after losing three games in a row, although their midweek European exerts may have an impact on this match.
Spurs play Barcelona at Wembley on Wednesday night, which is sure to be a tough encounter for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. It may take some of the energy out of their legs, but even so, Tottenham should have too much for this struggling Cardiff outfit.
The home team are the heavy favourites in the betting, priced at 1/4. Two first-half goals from Harry Kane were enough to see off Huddersfield at the weekend, after Spurs also won 2-1 at Brighton in the game before.
Cardiff are 15/1 for the win, but that’s one to stay away from this weekend. The Bluebirds have only managed two draws so far this season, and even they came against Newcastle and Huddersfield who are both also without a win. A draw is probably the best the travelling fans can hope for, and it’s priced at 6/1 in the betting.
Tottenham to win to nil at 23/20
Spurs should have enough in the tank to pick up the three points in this game, against a Cardiff side who’ve only managed four goals so far this season.
Kane to score first at 2/1
Tottenham’s main man silenced some of his doubters with a brace at the weekend, and will lead the line for Spurs once again on Saturday.
