Tottenham v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 25, 2017
Wembley Stadium - Premier League
Tottenham host Southampton on Boxing Day, with Mauricio Pochettino eager to collect a valuable three points against his former club.
Tottenham did the double over Southampton in the Premier League last year, winning 2-1 at home and 4-1 away, and they have only lost once in their last ten meetings with the Saints.
That defeat came back in the 2015-16 season, with Southampton winning 2-1 at White Hart Land, courtesy of two Steve Davis goals.
Davison Sanchez returns for Tottenham after serving a three match suspension, however his defensive colleague Toby Alderweireld is likely to be out of action until the new year with a hamstring problem.
Midfielder Victor Wanyama is still out with a knee injury.
Southampton have an issue at full back with first choice pairing Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand both sidelined through injury for this game, with Wesley Hoedt and Jack Stephens likely to deputise.
Tottenham v Southampton Preview and Predictions
Defeat to Manchester City was a blow for Pochettino's side, but they look well placed to recover and get themselves back on track against a Southampton side that is in a really poor run of Premier League form.
Spurs also seem to have settled their Wembley nerves, an issue from earlier this season, and they have not lost a Premier League game there since August.
Saints boss Manuel Pellegrino looks to be having trouble picking a set side and developing a defensive strategy in recent weeks, and he could suffer another defeat here, with a home win priced at 4/11.
Spurs are also in good goal scoring form, netting ten goals in their last three home games in all competitions, and they should rack up another high scorer against a Southampton side that has conceded four goals in their last three games on the road.
With that in mind, an over 2.5 goals bet looks to be a good option, priced at 7/10.
Tottenham to win 3-1 at 12/1
A title challenge looks to be out of the question for Tottenham at the half way stage of the season, but they will still be focused on securing a top four finish. Southampton look completely out of both form and consistency, they are unlikely to cause their hosts any real problems on Boxing Day.
Harry Kane to score first at 9/4
England international Kane is in brilliant form for Spurs this season, with 18 goals in all competitions for them already in 2017-18. He looks set to keep banging in the goals for the remainder of the campaign and an uncertain Saints back line will have their work cut out against him.
