Tottenham v Watford Preview, Betting Tips and Previews
April 27, 2018
Wembley Stadium - Premier League
Tottenham look to bounce back after a disappointing FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, and have had over a week's rest to recover. Their opponents, Watford have yet to win a game in April, but remain just three points off the top half of the table.
Tottenham only managed a draw in the reverse fixture with Watford opening the score through Christian Kabasele. Son Heung-Min equalised soon after but Pochettino's side failed to get the elusive winning goal.
Pochettino has confirmed that Harry Winks may recover from his ankle injury in time to feature this season, but Monday's game will come too early for the young central midfielder. Danny Rose is Spurs' other long-term injury concern, with his calf problem having ruled him out of the defeat to United.
Watford captain Troy Deeney may be out for the rest of the season, having picked up a foot injury in the draw with Crystal Palace. Javi Garcia may decide therefore to revert to a 4-2-3-1 rather than playing Andre Grey alongside Stefano Okaka. Gerard Deulofeu remain a long-term absence with a fracture to his foot.
Tottenham v Watford Preview, Betting Tips and Predictions
With no cup competitions left to fight for, Tottenham's only priority is to ensure Champions League football for next season. With a comfortable five point gap over nearest rivals Chelsea, this should be a relatively easy task, although Pochetinno's men can't afford to get complacent.
Watford's recent run of results will do little to inspire fear in Spurs, with the Hornets failing to win in their last six games. Despite working to shore up his team's leaky defence, Gracia has been undone by the injury to Deulofeu and a dip in form for Richarlison. As a result, Watford have struggled up front in recent weeks, and haven't scored in either of their last two games.
Six points clear of the relegation zone with three games to play, the manager may view Monday's match as somewhat of a lost cause. A recent five nil defeat at Anfield and a three nil at the Emirates may encourage Gracia to baton down the hatches and play for a draw, in an attempt to avoid a moral damaging thrashing.
However, Tottenham are not in the best form themselves, and have lost two and drawn the other of their last three games. Harry Kane has been off the pace since returning from injury and Pochettino may even drop his star man in favour of playing Son up front. With three points needed on Monday, Spurs will go in all guns blazing.
Dele Ali to score first at 6/1
Ali opened the scoring against United and is arguably Spurs in-form player.
Tottenham to win to nil at 4/6
Watford have failed to score in their last two games and should pose little threat to Tottenham's back line.
