Vancouver Whitecaps v New York City FC Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
July 05, 2017
Thursday July 6 – BC Place Stadium – MLS
New York City FC are going for a club record fifth MLS win in a row as they visit Vancouver in the MLS. The Whitecaps are under pressure after a 4-0 loss last time out against leaders Chicago Fire.
New York have won both the previous MLS meetings. David Villa scored twice as New York won 3-2 in the Big Apple in 2016 and the Spain superstar scored a penalty when his side won 2-1 in Canada the year before.
Both sides are weakened by call ups for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and there are injuries and suspensions too.
Against New York’s in form attack Vancouver have lost defenders Sam Adekugbe and Marcel de Jong as well as midfielders Alphonso Davies and Russell Teibert to international duty. With defensive midfielder Matias Laba suspended, coach Carl Robinson has a selection headache.
Patrick Vieira’s New York have also lost men to the Gold Cup. Panama’s Miguel Camargo, USA’s Sean Johnson and Costa Rica’s Rodney Wallace. Another Costa Rican is injured but Ronald Matarrita should be replaced by the highly rated Ben Sweat.
Vancouver Whitecaps v New York City Preview and Predictions
New York City are on the march and will be tough opponents for the Whitecaps who felt the heat when beaten 4-0 by Chicago Fire last time out. Two points behind Toronto and one behind Eastern Conference leaders Chicago Fire, Patrick Vieira’s New York can go 13 points clear of the seventh place Play-off cut off. New York have scored in every one of their last 17 MLS games and have scored at least twice in each of their last five MLS matches. The Whitecaps have leaked 12 goals in their last five games and will be
missing two defenders on international duty. You can get 19/1 on New York winning 2-0 and 7/1 on David Villa to score more than once. Villa scored twice last time he faced the Whitecaps and once on his other appearance against them.
Vancouver will threaten in the air. They are good on set pieces and New York have conceded more headers than anyone. The Whitecaps are only four points off the bottom of the Western Conference but still have a chance of reaching a Play-off place. They will know that although New York have won their last four MLS matches including one at their rivals The Red Bulls, but they have lost their last two outside New York.
Both teams to score at 4/7
New York have scored in their last 17 MLS games but don’t have the greatest defence. Whitecaps need to impress their fans after a big defeat last week.
David Villa to score more than one at 7/1
Good odds for the third top scorer in the MLS against a team lacking confidence and key men, especially as he scored twice against them last time.
