Watford v Burnley Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 03, 2018
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Watford and Burnley meet at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on Saturday, with the visitors chasing European football for next season. The Hornets meanwhile are pushing for a finish in the top half of the table.
Scott Arfield scored the only goal of the game to hand Burnley the points when the teams played each other in December. The last three meetings between the sides have all been home wins in the Premier League, while before that there were four straight draws in the Championship.
Javi Gracia’s injury problems show little sign of easing, and he has concerns over seven players heading into this game. Of those, Miguel Britos is closest to a return, with the likes of Younes Kaboul, Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu and Nathaniel Chalobah all ruled out.
Th Clarets will be without Steven Defour and Robbie Brady who are out for the season, while Jonathan Walters misses out after keyhole surgery on his knee. Johann Gudmundsson is nearing a return from a call strain, while Tom Heaton is back training but has a job on his hands to replace Nick Pope in goal.
Watford v Burnley Preview and Predictions
With just seven games left to play, Burnley show little signs of easing their grip on a Europa League place. Watford meanwhile could go as high as ninth with a win, as they put the poor run that preceded Marco Silva’s departure firmly behind them.
Despite going three games without a win, Gracia has calmed the hornet’s nest that was threatening Watford’s Premier League status. Jermain Defoe’s injury time equaliser was a bitter pill to swallow last weekend, but a victory on Saturday would take the Vicarage Road outfit to 40 points.
The home side are 7/5 for the victory, which puts them as favourites in the betting ahead of Burnley who are priced at 5/2. Sean Dyche’s side continue to exceed expectations, following up their 3-0 triumph at West Ham with a win at West Brom last time out.
The Clarets can make it four wins on the bounce against Watford, keeping them on a very different trajectory to the Hornets. Gracia’s side still carry a threat though, and if you think the game will end in a draw then the odds on that are 11/5.
1-1 draw at 11/2
Two of those four most recent stalemates between the sides ended 1-1, and the bookmakers have made a repeat of that scoreline their favourite outcome for this fixture.
Ashely Barnes to score and Burnley to win at 7/2
The Clarets forward scored a delightfully improvised volley at the Hawthorns last weekend, and has been in excellent form of late. He’s 28/1 to bag the only goal of the game.
