Watford v Cardiff Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 11, 2018
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Watford look to replicate the fighting spirit that earned them a draw at Everton as they face Cardiff at Vicarage Road on Saturday. The Bluebirds are in astonishing form, which, should they continue in this vein, secure safety for the Welsh side.
Cardiff have the edge in recent years over Watford, having won the last game, a club friendly over the summer, and only lost to their weekend opponents once over the past six meetings. Their only defeat did come in the most recent competitive meeting in a thrilling 4-2 away win for the Hornets.
Will Hughes remains absent for Watford, with newly registered Adalberto Penaranda also unlikely to reach match-fitness by next weekend. However, Etienne Capoue will return from suspension and Daryl Janmaat is nearing a return for Javi Gracia.
Kenneth Zohore, Jazz Richards, Greg Cunningham, Danny Ward and Gary Madine all missed out on the Bluebirds win over Southampton, with Neil Warnock fielding Nathaniel Mendez-Laing over Junior Hoilett on the right wing.
Watford v Cardiff Preview and Predictions
Watford's Monday night draw at Everton had everything a neutral could want from a football match: former players, rapid turn-arounds and a last minute equaliser. For Gracia, it displayed the fighting spirit his team has lacked in recent weeks, although he will be disappointed to have missed out on all three points.
Having now gone six games without a win, Watford are slipping down the table, and are facing Cardiff at the wrong time of the season. After reverting to a back three several weeks ago, Warnock's side rediscovered their defensive stability, which has now transferred into their four man defence.
The Bluebird's win over Southampton, who were buoyed by a managerial change, saw the Saints take over 63% possession and 12 shots, and yet a resolute performance from Sol Bamba at one end of the pitch, and Callum Patterson at the other ensured that Warnock's side jumped to 14th in the table. Against Watford, the Welsh side are likely to encounter another side that enjoy possession although have failed to finish in recent weeks, and a similar performance could well see them take another three points.
For Gracia, he may feel that luck has been against his team in recent weeks, as, in addition to Everton's last minute free-kick equaliser, the Hornets have been dominating games without hitting the targets. A solid showing against Manchester City showed Watford's capabilities, but unlike the beginning of the season, this has failed to translate to points.
Saturday's game pits two sides in very different form, with opposing styles face off, which could as likely lead to a thrilling multi-goal match as a stalemate.
Callum Patterson to score anytime at 10/3
The forward had a thankless task at the beginning of the season but put in the work, and is now reaping the rewards.
Both teams to score at 19/20
Cardiff may struggle to keep Watford out over 90 minutes but should have a fair few chances to score themselves/
