February 02, 2018
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Javi Gracia faces a tough test in his first home Premier League game as Watford, as Chelsea pay the Hornets a visit on Monday night.
Chelsea have won their last three games against Watford, and the Blues are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with Gracia's side in a run stretching back to 2000. Watford last win over Chelsea came in 1999 in the old Premiership, with Allan Smart scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory.
Watford have a massive injury list to contend with, and Frenchman Younes Kaboul is the only playing nearing a return to the first team, but his is still two weeks away from full fitness.
Craig Cathcart, Nathaniel Chalobah, Miguel Britos, Will Hughes, Kiko Femenia and Martin Wague are all still sidelined through injury.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be hoping that attacking duo Willian and Alvaro Morata can make a return as they are both back in training following injuries, but match fitness is an issue for both players.
In defence Andreas Christensen and David Luiz are both ruled out, meaning likely starts for Antonio Rudiger and Davide Zappacosta.
Watford v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Gracia has a huge task on his hands to save the club from the drop, and he has made an uninspiring start after taking over from Marco Silva, scoring no goals and picking up a point so far.
Chelsea suffered a shock defeat to Bournemouth last time out, but other than that their last Premier League defeat came back on December 9th to West Ham. Conte will be angered by the performance and approach against Bournemouth, and he will be eager to put that right against Watford, with an away win priced at 4/7.
He will also want to make a statement in terms of defensive improvement, and particularly given Watford's struggles in front of goal in recent weeks, a no on a both teams to score bet looks a good options - priced at 10/11.
Chelsea to win 2-0 at 7/1
The Blues will be stung by that defeat to Bournemouth and they need to respond if they are to keep their push for a top four spot going. A loss will be a blow for Watford, but Gracia will be aware of the more 'winable' games in the coming weeks.
Eden Hazard to score first at 4/1
Hazard has been a leading ight this season, playing across the Chelsea attack, and netting eight Premier League goals so far in 2017-18. He is also the only fully fit attacker available to Conte, with Morata and Willian returning from injury and new signing Olivier Giroud short of match fitness.
