Watford v Huddersfield Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 14, 2017
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Watford welcome Huddersfield to Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon, as both teams look to put their midweek defeats behind them. The hosts in particular will be keen to banish the memory of their late loss against Crystal Palace.
Past Meetings
These teams have played each other six times over the last five years, with all of those games coming in the Championship. Watford tasted victory on four occasions, with Huddersfield winning the other two. Both teams won their home games the last time they clashed in the 2014/15 season.
Team News
The problems continue to stack up for Marco Silva when it comes to the players he has available. Tom Cleverley’s late red card on Tuesday means the midfielder’s suspended for this one along with Marvin Zeegelaar.
This is in addition to ten players on the Watford treatment table, including Nathaniel Chalobah, Younes Kaboul, Will Hughes and Isaac Success. In-form forward Richarlison faces a late fitness test on a tight groin, and he’d be a massive miss for the Hornets.
Huddersfield have a much cleaner bill of health, with two of their three absentees hopeful of returning over the Christmas period. Jon Stankovic and Michael Hefele could both be back by Boxing Day, while Philip Billing is expected to be available in mid-January.
Watford v Huddersfield Preview and Predictions
With 27 goals in the last six games between the sides, we could be in for a cracker in this one. Both teams have shipped 29 goals in their 17 Premier League games so far this season, although Watford have scored 14 more than the Terriers.
After their impressive start to the season, the Hornets are without a win in four. They looked on course to take all three points from Selhurst Park in midweek, leading by a goal to nil going into the final few minutes. However, Cleverley’s sending off and a Wilfried Zaha-inspired Palace fightback left Watford boss Silva scratching his head at the final whistle. They’ll want to maintain their position in the top ten over the busy festive period, and are 4/5 favourites for this one.
Huddersfield meanwhile approached their game on Tuesday against Chelsea as a bonus round. They weren’t able to take anything from the match, but at least substitute Laurent Depoitre’s injury time header got them on the scoresheet. The Terriers have conceded 16 goals in their last five Premier League games away from home, so David Wagner needs to tighten things up at the back if he wants to get a result on Saturday. Huddersfield are 9/2 for the win, while the draw’s available at 11/4.
Recommended Bets
Over 3.5 goals at 14/5
There’s been an average of 4.5 goals in the last six games between these two, so this is a tempting bet. Over 4.5 goals is priced at 15/2.
Watford to win to nil at 37/19
Only Swansea have scored fewer than Huddersfield’s 12 goals this season, so this is a good way to improve your odds on a home win.
