Watford v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips & Previews
April 27, 2017
Monday 1 May – Vicarage Road – Premier League
Liverpool will travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford on Monday evening, knowing what their top four rivals did over the weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s men are chasing Champions League qualification, while the Hornets are looking to secure their best ever finish in the Premier League era.
History isn’t really on Watford’s side heading into this one. The Hornets have only ever beaten Liverpool four times, with the visitors romping to a 6-1 win in this season’s corresponding fixture. However, Watford emerged 3-0 winners in this fixture last season, giving Walter Mazzarri’s side hope on Monday.
For the home team, defender Craig Cathcart could return after sustaining a knee injury a couple of weeks ago. With the threat Liverpool pose up top, the Hornets could need all the defensive reinforcements they can get.
After missing more than a month with a thigh injury, Adam Lallana is nearing a return for the Reds. Daniel Sturridge has also returned to training, but this game could be too soon for the out of favour striker.
Watford v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
After both suffering defeats in their last games, Mazzarri and Klopp hope for a reaction from their players on Monday. Watford are all but guaranteed Premier League football last season, and are now looking upwards to see how high they can finish. Liverpool meanwhile will have watched their Manchester rivals take points from each other, before hoping for more dropped points at the weekend.
Following their defeat at Swansea, Watford go into this game looking to strengthen their claim for a top half finish. Anything above 13th place would be the Hertfordshire club’s highest ever Premier League finish, which should act as motivation. It’s been an up and down season for Italian Mazzarri. If you think his team has a big result in them against Liverpool, you can get odds of 11/2.
The visitors meanwhile go into the game as strong favourites in the betting at 7/12. The result of the Manchester derby will have a huge impact on Liverpool’s hopes for a top four finish, which were dented at Anfield against Crystal Palace last time out. The Merseysiders can’t afford many more slip ups if they’re to secure Champions League football for only the second time since the 2009/10 season. If you think Klopp’s team will stutter again with a draw, the odds are 7/2.
Liverpool to win to nil at 9/5
The visitors start this one as the favourites, while each of Watford’s last six games has seen a clean sheet.
Watford to win 2-1 at 18/1
After losing 2-1 to Palace last weekend, this is a great price for Watford to repeat the same scoreline on Monday night.
