Watford v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 14, 2017
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Watford have never beaten Manchester City in the Premier League with two draws from six fixtures but are still unbeaten this season.
5-0 winners at Vicarage Road in May, City have won nine and drawn two of the last 11 meetings. Watford have never beaten City in the Premier League – losing four of the six games – and haven’t beaten City at any level since 1989.
City may well rotate as the games come quickly now Champions League football has resumed. Goalkeeper Ederson Moraes played at Feyenoord despite the stitches he received in his collision with Liverpool’s Saido Mane but Pep Guardiola may give him a rest. It wouldn’t be a City game of course without a doubt about defensive king-pin Vincent Kompany.
As injury prone as Kompany, Watford’s Younes Kaboul is expected to miss the game as are Sebastian Prodl, Craig Cathcart, Mauro Zarate, Kiko Femenia and Roberto Pereya while the suspended Miguel Britos definitely misses out. Watford don’t have the strength in depth of City and absentees will have more impact on Marco Silva’s side.
Watford v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
The Hornets are in the top four of the top flight after four games for the first time since 1982, when they finished second.
Watford will have been worried watching City score at will away from home in the Champions League this week, following their 5-0 demolition of Liverpool. Memories of City’s 5-0 win at Watford in May are only too fresh in their minds albeit this is a new-look Watford and meeting City after a European trip is a good time to catch them.
Watford are 17/2 to win at home with City 19/50 for another away win. The odds on a draw are 23/5.
Only two clubs have been behind for fewer than the 33 minutes unbeaten Watford have trailed this season but that begs the question of how they will reach if – or when – they fall behind to Guardiola’s in-form City?
No one will worry Watford as much as Sergio Aguero. He scored twice in his most recent visit to Vicarage Road, taking his record to six goals – including a hat-trick – against The Hornets in his last four games against them. Odds of 16/1 are offered on another Aguero hat-trick.
You can have 33/1 on City repeating their 5-0 win of last season and almost as much – 30/1 – on Watford winning 1-0.
Despite Watford’s good start, injuries and City’s form make City hot favourites, but there’s always the possibility of a City off day.
Sergio Aguero to open the scoring at 3/1
Six goals in his last four games against Watford is not out of the ordinary for the goal-machine and he is always likely to make the breakthrough
City to win 3-1 at 11/1
City are scoring for fun, Watford are weakened by injury but have the potential to pierce a sometimes sleepy defence.
