Watford v Manchester United, Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 27, 2017
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Nothing less than a win will do for Manchester United as they try to keep pace with Manchester City, but eighth placed Watford are no pushovers.
Watford have only ever beaten Manchester United five times, but one of them was at Vicarage Road last season. United have 18 victories in the fixture while there have been five draws. Prior to last season, the Reds had won on their previous six trips to Vicarage Road stretching back to 1986.
Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian were left out of the 18 against Brighton after disappointing performances in Basel and will hope not to be ignored again, especially as United are expected to be without defenders Phil Jones and Eric Baily. In attack Romelu Lukaku is enduring his first sticky patch as a United player and might be given a rest.
Marvin Zeegelaar has impressed in his two Premier League appearances for Watford, especially at Newcastle on Saturday. He could be key here again for the home side who now have Troy Deeney free from suspension. With manager Marco Silva looking like he isn't going to Everton, the Hornets are on a high.
Watford v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
The bookmakers have Watford at 9/2 for the win, with Manchester United 7/10 and the odds on a draw 16/5.
Both teams have strolled to three goal winning margins over Newcastle in their last two games but should find each other a tougher proposition. United’s performance might be compared to City's after the Blues won 6-0 here in September, but Watford have won their last two games and will be determined to show that they can do better against the top teams.
United are out of sorts. Only a heavily deflected goal enabled them to beat newly promoted Brighton at home last weekend, while before that they had lost two of their previous three. Now is not the time for a wobble as if they do City could be out of sight before Christmas.
Arguably the best tactician in the Premier League, Mourinho will know a point isn’t enough and will have a game plan to gain all three points. That's more likely to be based on being solid rather than sweeping away all before them as City have been doing on a regular basis so far. Watford are good at beating moderate opposition but lost to five of the top six sides at home last season. They have done better this term but United should have too much for them.
United to win with over 2.5 goals in the game at 17/11
All but three of Watford’s last 16 matches against top six sides have featured three or more goals with ten of those games having at least four.
Abdoulaye Doucoure to score at any time at 8/1
Richarlison is attracting the Watford headlines but is yet to score against a top half team, whereas Doucoure has already scored against Chelsea and Liverpool and has only one goal fewer than the Brazilian.
