Watford v Swansea City Predictions, Betting Tips & Previews
April 11, 2017
Saturday April 15 – Vicarige Road – Premier League
While Swansea teeter on the brink of relegation, Watford are all but safe and will be going in for the kill on Saturday. The home side usually press early so expect them to have put the game to bed by half time.
Their first meeting this season was a drab goalless draw, while both games last season were 1-0 wins either way, so there likely won’t be many goals scored. The home side have a slight historical advantage winning five of their 12 meetings to Swansea’s four.
Angel Rangel, Leon Britton, Nathan Dyer and Jack Cork will all be missing for the home side, so it is likely we will see Jefferson Montero start after making his return from injury against West Ham last week.
Miguel Britos will miss Saturday’s game through suspension and won’t be alone on the sidelines as Valon Behrami, Sebastian Prodl, Ben Watson, Roberto Pereyra, Younes Kaboul and Mauro Zarate are all injured.
Watford vs Swansea Preview and Predictions
At 6/4, Watford have home advantage and are marginal favourites for Saturday’s meeting, as Swansea are priced at 2/1 the draw is at 12/5. Walter Mazzarri’s men aren’t known for blowing away opposition and often wait for their opponents to make a mistake before attempting a quick counter. This makes them hard to beat while facing clubs in a similar league position, but it can backfire, as shown by their 4-0 demolition by Tottenham Hotspur last week.
As the home side have basically confirmed their spot in next season’s Premier League, Swansea have not and will be desperate for the win. Although results have noticeably picked up since the arrival of Paul Clement, the disastrous months of Bob Bradley is still the main reason to blame for their likely relegation.
However, Carlo Ancelotti’s former right hand man still hasn’t got it all figured out, as last week he made three attacking substitutions before the 60th minute and his side still only managed to record two shots on target, so a change in formation could be made for the trip to Vicarige Road. Fernando Llorente has made Gylfi Sigurdsson’s occasional forward role obsolete, but as they remain the Swans’ most important players, expect them to have prominent roles once again this weekend.
Troy Deeney will return to lead the line and is favourite to open the scoring at 5/1. The former Walsall man has scored the first goal of a game on nine occasions this season, and a leaky Swansea side offer a great chance for him to make it double figures.
Fernando Llorente to score anytime at 9/4
The former Juventus and Sevilla man has been a Premier League revelation despite struggling in Serie A and La Liga and will be the focal point of Swansea’s attack on Saturday. Although service has been poor, the former Spain international has an admirable shot/goal ratio, so expect him to find the net.
Watford to win 2-1 at 10/1
Although the Hornets are impressive tactically and have a resolute defence, they are not known for high scoring wins. This is because their set-up is designed to endure long seasons, which is why they find themselves nine points clear of Saturday’s opponents.
