Watford v West Brom Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 27, 2018
Vicarage Road - Premier League
Watford host West Brom at Vicarage Road on Saturday, with time running out for the Baggies to salvage their Premier League status. The hosts, on the other hand, can start looking up the table at the teams they might be able to catch.
Despite taking a 2-0 first half lead when the teams met at the Hawthorns in September, West Brom failed to hang on for the win. Richarlison secured a dramatic point for the visiting Hornets in the 95th minute of the match, while last season both sides won their home game in this fixture.
There are faint signs that Watford’s injury crisis is slowly starting to ease. Craig Cathcart and Will Hughes could make their return in this one, although the likes of Younes Kaboul, Tom Cleverley, Nathaniel Chalobah and Gerard Deulofeu are among those expected to miss out.
West Brom only have three injury concerns, but they’re all to key players. Daniel Sturridge and James Morrison could be back for the visit of Leicester next weekend, while Nacer Chadli is still some way off a return, and unlikely to feature before the end of March.
Watford v West Brom Preview and Predictions
The pressure is really building on Alan Pardew, and this trip to Watford may well be last chance saloon for the West Brom boss. The Hornets meanwhile are just four points off what’s likely to be a Europa League place.
Where Pardew’s appointment has failed to yield the expected bounce for the Baggies, the opposite is true for Javi Gracia who replaced Marco Silva at Vicarage Road towards the end of January. The Spaniard has seen his new side record impressive victories over Chelsea and Everton, winning seven points from his four games in charge so far.
The man in the away dugout on Saturday meanwhile has found it tough going in the West Midlands, taking one more point than Gracia’s tally, but from 14 games in the West Brom hot seat. The Baggies are seven points from safety, making this one a must-win with just 10 games left in the season.
There’s no surprise that Watford start the game as favourites with the bookmakers, and they’re priced at 29/25 in the betting. This might seem a bit generous bearing in mind West Brom’s poor form with four straight Premier League losses to their name, including a defeat at home against Huddersfield last weekend. The visitors are 147/50 for the win, while the draw is 47/20.
Watford to win 2-0 at 9/1
The Hornets beat West Brom by this scoreline last season, and if you add match winner against Everton Troy Deeney as the first scorer, the odds increase to 33/1.
West Brom to win 1-0 at 10/1
Or if you think the Baggies can pick up a vital victory, a narrow win looks most likely. The odds are 35/1 if you choose either Jay Rodriguez or Salomon Rondon as the scorer.
