The Hawthorns - Premier League

Both victorious in the FA Cup at the weekend and both proud Albions, it’s likely to be a tight game as West Brom host Brighton on Saturday. This is a huge match for the Baggies, as defeat would allow a potential relegation rival to pull well clear of them.

Past Meetings

Brighton were 3-1 winners at the Amex earlier this season, which was the first meeting between the teams for over 20 years. Pascal Gross bagged a brace in that game, and set up the third goal for Tomer Hemed in an impressive display from the German.

Team News

Alan Pardew has a trio of players who are all facing late fitness tests ahead of this encounter. Jonny Evans, Craig Dawson and Matt Phillips all have a chance of making the game, although Kieran Gibbs is likely to miss out along with James Morrison and Nacer Chadli.

Visiting boss Chris Hughton is less troubled by what he sees on the treatment table, although Matias Schelotto and Izzy Brown are both doubts for the Seagulls. Apart from that, only Steve Sidwell is expected to miss out, with the veteran midfielder yet to feature this season because of a back injury.

West Brom v Brighton Preview and Predictions

After finally registering their first win under new boss Pardew at the ninth time of asking, West Brom need to turn their Premier League draws into victories. Brighton meanwhile have won just one of their last 11 league fixtures, but three points at the Hawthorns would go a long way towards ensuring survival in their first top flight campaign for 35 years.

Beating Exeter on Saturday was so much more than avoiding a potential banana skin for West Brom. As well as a first win for Pardew and progression to the next round of the FA Cup where they’ll play Liverpool at Anfield in what’s essentially a free hit, two strikers struggling for goals got themselves on the scoresheet.

Salomon Rondon opened the scoring before Jay Rodriguez added the second, and they’re both priced at 9/2 along with Hal Robson-Kanu to score in a West Brom win. The Baggies are 5/4 for the outright win, while Brighton are available at 17/5.

Victory for the Seagulls could see them glide up into the top half of the table depending on how other results pan out, but a draw at 21/10 would also be a decent result as they maintain a seven point gap to the Baggies. No one has drawn more than West Brom’s 10 games this season, so this could be the most likely result.

Recommended Bets

West Brom to win to nil at 2/1

Only Swansea and West Brom themselves have scored fewer goals than Brighton, but there should be an air of optimism at the Hawthorns after some encouraging results in recent weeks.

Goalless draw at 11/2

With both sides struggling in front of goal this season, this is a fair price for the game to end scoreless. If you think it’ll finish 1-1, that’s 6/1.
