West Ham United v Leicester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 20, 2017
London Stadium - Premier League
The latest instalment of Friday night football comes from the London Stadium, where Leicester are the visitors for beleaguered West Ham. The David Moyes era hardly got off to a good start at the weekend, and the new Hammers boss is desperate for a win.
West Ham haven’t beaten Leicester for almost three years, with the Foxes winning five of the last six meetings between the teams. Last season Claudio Ranieri was still in charge when Leicester won 1-0 at the King Power, before Craig Shakespeare oversaw a 3-2 victory in the return fixture.
As if the opening defeat against Watford wasn’t bad enough, Moyes has inherited one of the Premier League’s worst bills of health. Jose Fonte is out until the new year, while Marko Arnautovic broke his thumb at Vicarage Road. Andre Ayew is a doubt for this one through illness, while Michail Antonio and James Collins could also miss out.
Claude Puel meanwhile only has two injury clouds hanging over his newly-inherited squad. Robert Huth and Matty James continue to miss out with respective ankle and Achilles problems, although both players are pencilled in for a return at the beginning of December.
West Ham United v Leicester City Preview and Predictions
It’s fair to say that the locals were hardly over the moon with the appointment of new Hammers boss Moyes. A second defeat to kick off the new regime would be a complete disaster for the former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland manager.
Not only would a debut defeat in front of his new home supporters be devastating for morale, it would also take Leicester seven points clear of West Ham. With a number of strong sides just above them, including Everton, Stoke and Southampton, Moyes can’t afford to be cut adrift of the mid-table pack.
The man in the opposition dugout has begun life in Leicester relatively well. In light of their recent goalscoring exploits, limiting Manchester City to just the two goals on Saturday could even be viewed as something of a positive result. This game should play perfectly into Leicester’s hands, as West Ham will be expected to take control of the ball and force the play. The Foxes will look to exploit any gaps that open up as they hit the Hammers on the counter.
The bookmakers are struggling to call this game, with West Ham starting as slight favourites in the betting. They’re priced at 8/5, while Leicester are available at 9/5. If you think the game will end in a draw, that’s 12/5.
West Ham to win and both teams to score at 18/5
Back Moyes to get off the mark with his first victory for the Hammers. It won’t all be plain sailing though, as Leicester score at least once to make the locals nervous.
Leicester to win 2-0 at 14/1
Or bet on the visitors to pick off West Ham on the counter, in what could be an ominous sign of things to come at the London Stadium.
